Girls:

Violet
Adeline
Ivy
Cassandra

Which is best?

Please give your real opinions - I won't be offended - it's a work in progress.

I quite like Adeline, and Violet is OK. Not keen on the other two, especially Cassandra.

msrisotto · 04/02/2011 22:47

I love Violet. Not a massive fan of any of the others.

MelinaM · 04/02/2011 22:49

Love Violet, don't like Ivy, Adeline or Cassandra ...this one reminds me of Only Fools and Horses! ...sorrySmile

How about Adrienne or Cassie as alternatives? x

COCKadoodledooo · 04/02/2011 22:50

Love Violet!

Cassandra reminds me of Only Fools and Horses, sorry Blush

muminthemiddle · 04/02/2011 22:51

I like Cassandra and Adeline best.

cece · 04/02/2011 22:52

and wasn't Adeline a character in another programme? Something from Liverpool, think it was called Bread.

TheCrunchyNutter · 04/02/2011 22:54

I also like Genevieve but don't like Jen or Jenna.

I love Violet and Ivy.

Changeisagoodthing · 04/02/2011 23:00

Adeline was an awful 1980s tv character.

Violet is nice. I like ivy but some see it as a cold name (poison I guess)

I have a Cassandra in my family- she hates it - calls herself cassie and still hates it.

onimolap · 04/02/2011 23:05

Violet - lovely
Adeline - no (Bread character)
Ivy - dull
Cassandra - lovely (but unfortunate classical associations).

BelligerentGhoul · 04/02/2011 23:12

I like Violet best and then Cassandra. Dislike Adeline.

Christmasbelle · 04/02/2011 23:31

Love violet

Tupperwarewolf · 04/02/2011 23:35

I like Ivy. It's a grower (no pun intended). I know of two and at first was a bit Hmm but now really like it. Also like Genevieve - not a fan of Jenna either but Jenny/ie and Vivi are both nice nns I think.

Violet reminds me of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 04/02/2011 23:43

Love Cassandra.

COCKadoodledooo · 05/02/2011 00:03

The character in Bread was Aveline

Stac2011 · 05/02/2011 00:11

it was aveline in bread but dont like either. Cassandra same as op's have said. Violet is probs the nicest and ivy reminds me of the woman in coronation street. What others were you thinking?

threefeethighandrising · 05/02/2011 00:22

Adeline is lovely.

Ivy and Violet are nice, but very old lady - which may or may not put you off.

I'm not overly keen on Cassandra - It also sounds very posh and English - but that might be what you're after? Grin Also she's a tragic figure in Greek mythology. Having said that I like it better than Ivy and Violet I think. and I do like the NN Cassie.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 05/02/2011 00:25

violet and ivy are lovely.
i do know of 3 violets under 5 though, so becoming more popular, at least round here.

Violet - becoming more popular; I really like it
Adeline - on my own shortlist!
Ivy - a little too short for my tastes; I prefer names which are longer and can have nicknames
Cassandra - beautiful (though I am somewhat biased, since it's my name...)

HelenaRose · 05/02/2011 08:20

I'd add that nobody has referenced Only Fools and Horses when I tell them my name; our family didn't watch it so I didn't know there was a Cassandra in there until my teens.

AllieW · 05/02/2011 09:03

I think Cassandra is the prettiest but the meaning is quite sad (she was cursed always to tell the truth but never to be believed).

BelligerentGhoul · 05/02/2011 10:08

I'm surprised how many people dislike Cassandra - we briefly contemplated it for dd1 although she would have been Cassie if we'd gone for it. I like Carrie too.

LaTristesse · 05/02/2011 11:26

Violet or Ivy here...
