I like the name Innes for a boy (we're Scottish, so not too unusual for here). What do you think of it though?

I also like the name Ines for a girl, but it is Spanish/French. Do you like it and do you think it would work in the UK?

I do like Ines for a girl.

Never heard of Innes for a boy... hmm not sure.

purplepidjin · 03/02/2011 12:25

When I read them, I hear inns for Innes, and Inyeth for Ines...

greentig3r · 03/02/2011 12:26

Like.

I'm Scottish too and think Innes for a boy is a great name.

Is Ines pronounced een-ye-s?

MollysChambers · 03/02/2011 12:28

Yes for Innes for a boy. Know quite a few.

Good solid traditional name which is nice for little ones but grown ups too.

Ines for a girl is nice but more unusual. She'll probably get confused for an Innes from time to time!

I love them both. Innes is a fab name for a Scottish boy. I know a couple. In Scotland it will be well known but not too common.

I know an Inez (also in Scotland) and I think her name is Italian - the family have strong Italian connections but I may be making a massive assumption there. It is a beautiful name though and very feminine.

Both a excellent imo - love Innes for a boy (especially Scottish) and Ines is lovely for a girl.

rachel234 · 03/02/2011 12:51

sorry, are

LaydeeC · 03/02/2011 22:25

^^ my main reason for wanting another dtr was to name her Inez (or Ines)! Had a friend called this many years ago - she always pronounced it I-nez. Love it!

Rhubarbgarden · 04/02/2011 09:51

Ines is gorgeous. I do think you need a Spanish connection though.

Catsmamma · 04/02/2011 09:54

isn't it Inez for a girl?

I like Innes for a boy! ...I think that may be the first time I have liked a suggestion :D

wigglesrock · 04/02/2011 10:13

I really like it but think its Inez.

AllieW · 04/02/2011 13:12

Lovely!

BeautifulBlondePineapple · 04/02/2011 13:24

Thanks for the replies everyone!

The girl's version can be written Ines or Inez (with a variety of accents depending where you're from) and is usually pronounced Een-ez or Een-eth in Spain/Portugal/Italy etc, but I think we'd probably pronounce it In-ez as that makes more sense with English pronunciation.

Still think it might be a bit too mediterranean for us. Mind you, we're not too peely wally, so maybe I can invent a Spanish great grandfather :)
