Kit - what could full name be?

I don't like Christopher or Christian, but really like Kit. However, DH thinks its not a 'proper' name in its own right (and I kind of agree). Any ideas?

Christoph? I appreciate that that may be too close to Christopher for your liking.

Kester is the medieval version of Christopher, so I suppose you could use it for that at a push.

Having said that, I do know someone (21yrs) who has Kit as his given name and it suits him very well.

Kit is ok on its own isn't it? I know a Kit who is 40 and one who is 5

PlanetLizard · 01/02/2011 17:36

Kristos
Krzysztof
Christos

JojoMags · 01/02/2011 17:42

Lol - I think the grandparents would die of shock if we called him Krzysztof Grin.

I like Kester and Crispin. Knew MN would come up trumps.

Is Kester a tiny bit chavvy? I don't think so, but would appreciate some more opinions!

Keep the suggestions coming...

nightrider?? Grin

AllieW · 01/02/2011 17:45

I've never heard anyone use the Kester, so no clue about the possible social class. Shouldn't have thought it's common enough to be, though. I think it's quite distinguished, myself.

AllieW · 01/02/2011 17:49

If you can ignore the appalling grammar of the website name, then www.yournotme.com will tell you how many there are in the country. Kester scores 268!

BikeRunSki · 01/02/2011 17:51

I know only 1 Kester. He must be about 30 know and comes from a very boho-hippy-arty-knot-your-own-lentils middle class family. They are lovely.

I woudl happily use the name.

banjomanjo · 01/02/2011 17:56

kit is a name, i know of a couple males also my grandmother's nickname was kit, short for kitty, short for katherine

hulabula · 01/02/2011 18:07

Between Kester and Crispin I'd choose Crispin. Kit is a cute nickname but it is nice to give your ds a proper name in case he wants to use it later on.

Greeninkmama · 01/02/2011 18:07

I love Kester and Kit. There's a Georgette Heyer novel with aristocratic twins called Kester and Kit. I was always going to call my DSs that, but DH vetoed and I had DDs anyway. Great names!

SoupDragon · 01/02/2011 18:09

Crispin is very much "weak upper class twit" in my mind.

plasticface · 01/02/2011 18:13

What SoupDragon said.

Highlandgirl · 01/02/2011 18:25

Jojo I feel your pain....same thing with us too....!

Went to school was a Kester, he was very boho and is now a chef. The only Crispin I know is a total wally!! Likes to think he's upper class but really he's middle class, dull and a bit thick!!!

kerala · 01/02/2011 19:26

Kit is short for Christopher.

Hedwig3 · 01/02/2011 19:37

Kit, if that is the name that you like!

There are no rules.

goodlooksandcooks · 01/02/2011 19:43

'Kit' the main character in the book 'Kit's Wilderness' by David Almond. A great book and I like the name because of that. I like literary inspired names. My daughter is named after the Edgar Allen Poe poem 'Annabel Lee' (but I changed the spelling to Anabelle) and my dad is named Kim after the Rudyard Kipling novel.

flybynight · 01/02/2011 21:05

Kit is a lovely name, but like kerala says, it is short for Christopher. Not Christian, or Crispin.

hellymelly · 01/02/2011 21:07

I know a Kester,he is 12.Very upper middle class family, arty and affluent.Certainly not at all chavvy..

Wafflenose · 01/02/2011 21:08

I know a 12 year old boy called Kit. It's his real name, not short for anything. I rather like it and it suits him - but everyone calls him by a completely unrelated nickname!

ThatllDoPig · 01/02/2011 21:11

P.E. or swimming?

Suncottage · 01/02/2011 21:11

Long shot - Kieran?

mumofeach · 01/02/2011 21:12

Kristin?

IHeartKingThistle · 01/02/2011 21:12

I LOVE Kit so much I'd consider having another baby just to use it! Well, maybe not Hmm but it is gorgeous.

It is short for Christopher but I think I'd have used it as it is - I've taught one or two and it didn't seem to raise any eyebrows.
