You press the alt gr button at the same time as pressing the letter.

chipmonkey · 18/04/2011 11:56

Doesn't work on my keyboard.Sad

lettinggo · 18/04/2011 12:15

It's beside the spacebar on the right? Press it like you're pressing the shift key?

chipmonkey · 18/04/2011 16:34

I have the key, I am using it like the shift key but nada. Or faic!

lettinggo · 18/04/2011 18:15

Is mór an náire é sin! (Just showing off my fadas - or should it be fadaí??))
That's a bummer. It was one of the kids I teach who showed me how to do that and I think I'm a great girl altogether:)

mopsytop · 18/04/2011 18:34

otherwise do Alt and 0233 on the number keypad (on the right of your keyboard) and that will make an é fada. But if you want general fadas you need to press é Alt Gr and e but you need to keep both pressed down together or it won't work!

chipmonkey · 18/04/2011 19:45

Right, now when I did THAT I ended up on Facebook.

To which dh said

"Our fada
Who art on Facebook"

chipmonkey · 18/04/2011 19:47

é
Ok, that was pressing Alt Gr and 0233.
Is there a different code for all the other letters?

lettinggo · 18/04/2011 20:09

haha, that's good Mr Chipmonkey!

mopsytop · 19/04/2011 10:15

Yeah there is a different code for different letters.
á = Alt and 0225
é = Alt and 0233
ó = Alt and 0243
ú = Alt and 0250
í = Alt and 0237

chipmonkey · 19/04/2011 14:38

mopsy, how do you know this stuff?Grin

mopsytop · 19/04/2011 14:41

I use French a lot, so I know all the shortcuts for various accents on an English keyboard. You don't need to use the number shortcuts, there are also shortcuts on the actual letter keyboard, but I am used to the numbers so use them a lot.

i have a Killian (irish name - austrian spelling) and a Ronan (he was born the year Ireland won the 6 nations and Ronan O'Gara was kicking everything off the park). A girl would have been Niamh or Saiorse or Mairead

muminthecity · 26/06/2011 01:57

I love your choice of names, Seamus is my all time favourite boys name, closely followed by Ruairidh. I love Clodagh for a girl.

bagelmonkey · 26/06/2011 02:22

For a girl I love Laoise, Orla, Niamh and Aoife.
For a boy I love Oisin.

sorchatallulah · 26/06/2011 21:00

Go for Sorcha :D It's probably my favourite female name which is weird because it's -my- name and nobody seems to like their own name as much! I like having to tell people how to pronounce/spell it for some reason - I suppose it isn't intuitive at all :/ When I lived in England I got "Sirka" or "Sorka" (and actually still do, as nicknames!)

TangerineQueen · 26/06/2011 23:57

Colm is easy to spell! Also Declan, Daire and Niall are manageable! Kerry for a boy?

Love Clodagh! Think it's not tooo difficult to pronounce. Also love Saoirse and Aisling which are more challenging...
