Coming up for 38 weeks pregnant and need some help with the name. I don't know for certain that it's a boy but have a strong feeling it is! Girls names will be looked at later so I'm covered! DP has agreed on the following from my long list. Surname is 3 syllables and ends in "kin" therefore non n ending names tend to work better.

Harry - still very fond of this & works well with DD name & surname, but popular?

Hunter

Ellis

Gabriel

Oscar

Kiran - new addition, very taken with the meaning

Thoughts please????

Harry - very popular and all the ones I know seem to be a bit nuaghty!

Hunter - dreadful

Ellis - too girly for me

Gabriel - also a bit girly sounding

Oscar - think this is your best one

Kiran - not sure, it could grow on me.

But hey I like more tradional names for boys so just ignore me!

PlanetLizard · 22/01/2011 10:21

Harry - like (personally would use as nn for Henry)

Hunter - dislike

Ellis - OK but prefer Elliot

Gabriel - like :)

Oscar - dislike

Kiran - not keen, and won't sound great with surname ending in "kin"

AnnOnimous · 22/01/2011 10:41

Harry - very nice, timeless

Hunter - nah, too surnamey, some work, but not this, sorry.

Ellis - okay, but too unisex for my taste

Gabriel - would be very worried nasty wee school 'friends' would nn him Gay and mock him. You know what kids are like.

Oscar -very nice

Kiran - don't know the meaning, but I do know one female Kiran.

Highlandgirl · 22/01/2011 11:37

earlgrey what's your DD's name?

I like Harry, Oscar, Gabriel and Hunter

CupcakesHay · 22/01/2011 11:42

Harry - Ok

Hunter- Love - was on my shortlist for boys

Ellis - Ok - but agree - a bit girlie

Gabriel - LOVE (was on my short list for boys too!)

Oscar - LOVE (if my cat wasn't called it, this would have been on my boys short list!!!)

Kiran - not a fan, especially with that spelling. Sorry.

onimolap · 22/01/2011 11:45

Harry - lovely

Hunter - no

Ellis - fantastic

Gabriel - no

Oscar - lovely

Kiran - prefer Kieran

earlgreyismynectar · 22/01/2011 11:49

Hi Highlandgirl, DD name is Daisy.

Interesting to hear feedback thanks! Harry & Oscar prob my personal faves too & work well with surname & DD name. DP seems to like Gabriel best but it's the only name with 3 syllables & with a 3 syllable surname I'm not sure. I still like Hunter though maybe a bit brave, I came across an old man in his 70s called Hunter which made me think it was quite distinguished! I agree Ellis is the weakest and a bit meh.

Harry - my favourite from you list.

Hunter - dislike

Ellis - OK but also prefer Elliot

Gabriel - like

Oscar - really dislike

Kiran - just no, he will have to spend the rest of his life spelling it.

weimy · 22/01/2011 13:22

My Harry is definately not naughty, he is a weimy but it would have been on my list for childrens names.

ByTheSea · 22/01/2011 13:25

I like Gabriel best. Harry is just so popular. Oscar is okay.

Hatterbox · 22/01/2011 13:31

Gabriel, Oscar or Ellis for me.

Harry is uber popular.

Kiran is ok.

Hunter is dreadful, not only does it have a violent image, but with a quick change of the initial letter I can spot a potential nickname no child would want.

earlgreyismynectar · 22/01/2011 14:23

Thanks! Yes Hatter, my sister pointed that one out to me, fair point knowing what kids can be like!

Harry - I love this name but is popular, I know 4 baby Harrys

Hunter - Sorry but reminds me of the gladiator in the ITV programme from the 90s!

Ellis - I like but is quite popular round here

Gabriel - Sorry but don't like

Oscar - Love Oscar, would have been on my shortlist but DH thinks it sounds too pretentious and from someone called Rupert he knows what he's talking about!

Kiran - Not keen.

Oscar is my favourite!
Good luck in choosing

FranSanDisco · 22/01/2011 16:04

I like Harry best. I do like Gabe but not Gabriel Confused. I like Kiran spelt Ciaran or Kieran though.

FranSanDisco · 22/01/2011 16:05

Sorry but meant to say Harry and Daisy sound lovely together Smile.

FranSanDisco · 22/01/2011 16:06

What about Elliot instead of Ellis.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 22/01/2011 16:07

I know a couple of Kirans and they are both Indian so I think it's a different name to Ciaran/Kieran.

FranSanDisco · 22/01/2011 16:14

Kiran is a different name/origin/meaning but it's pronounced the same ime.

sadiesadiemarriedlady · 22/01/2011 16:14

Hunter is a strong but lovely name.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 22/01/2011 16:17

Yes, pronounced the same.
