Is Anna getting more popular?

We have settled on Anna Elizabeth for dd4 due in may. I love how it's really well known but not too popular. However, I've noticed a few comments that mention it may be increasing in popularity.

I already have 3 dds with really popular names (didn't realise how popular when I chose them). I think I'd prefer something slightly less popular this time round.

Do you know many?

Lots of 'populars' in that post! Sorry for my lack of imagination :)

I think it's classic and timeless so I don't think it'll ever explode in popularity and date the way that some names do. I went to school with an Anna in the 80s and she was just the most stunning girl and actually genuinely nice so I love it. I think it's one of those names that everyone loves but is rarely used as it gets over looked for more 'unique' names that end up becomming ridiculously popular! If you like it use it, at the end of the day it's a beautiful name so if it does get popular then it's for a good reason!

letsblowthistacostand · 20/01/2011 19:56

I don't know any. It's a lovely classic name anyway so who cares if it's popular? Your DD will thank you for giving her a name that everyone can pronounce and spell!!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/01/2011 19:59

I only know one and she's 8. Don't know any little ones.

Wheelybug · 20/01/2011 20:02

I have an almost 6 year old Anna and love it for the same reasons. We know of a couple but not very many compared wiht more popular names.

But, FWIW my dd2 has a much more uncommon, yet well know name and I have met a child born within a couple of days of her, living a road away with the same name and will probably go to the same school.

KangarooCaught · 20/01/2011 20:44

Yes, if looking at birthboards it's certainly on people's lists and the stats bear it out. Looking to be in the top 20

sarken · 20/01/2011 20:50

I love that name. I only know one Anna that's 8 years old. We had that name on our list at one point as my mum was called Annabella. Smile

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/01/2011 21:17

I know an Anna Elizabeth. Gorgeous name.

tummytickler · 20/01/2011 21:21

I know a few , age 2, 5 and two adults.
I prefer Anne myself.
I agree that it is a classic name, so even if there are suddenly loads of them it is not going to sound dated in the way Evie / Ava / Millie are.

sophiesmummie · 20/01/2011 21:22

We have an eight year old Anna and I hope it doesn't get to popular Smile.

CockneySparra · 20/01/2011 21:22

I know quite a few adult Annas, but no little Annas. It is such a lovely name.

hester · 20/01/2011 21:23

I don't know any young ones. I think it's a beautiful name.

Jojay · 20/01/2011 21:25

I have a beautiful 18 month old goddaughter called Anna.

She and the name are both gorgeous

Northernrose · 20/01/2011 21:46

Our 11mo dd is Anna and we love the name for the same reasons you gave, plus it's recognisable the world over and no spelling issues! To be honest, we thought it might be popular but know no other wee ones called Anna and theres only one other in her nursery, who is older, and the only other one I know is an adult!

I'm interested that you like Anna Elizabeth as if our dc2 turns out to be a girl then she'll be Elizabeth (known as Beth) So I think you have great taste! Wink

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 20/01/2011 21:48

I have a niece Anna Beth who is 1 and know another, who is 6.

I think it is reasonably popular, but it's so classic and timeless that I don't think it matters. It's a beautiful name.

oldspeckledtam · 21/01/2011 21:30

I know two Anna's, both about 8.

My DD is Anabelle, but known as Ana. Wish we'd just called her Anna, to be honest. Go for it!

Edmundo · 21/01/2011 22:31

Anna is a great name. I haven't noticed it getting more popular in recent years. Go for it!

jasper · 21/01/2011 22:39

Great name and a pallindrome to boot

Pterosaur · 21/01/2011 22:53

Really easy to learn to write.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 21/01/2011 22:58

I have an Anna Elizabeth who is 13 months, so i am biased and love it! can't say i know any others though.

muminthemiddle · 22/01/2011 00:39

I don't think it's over popular. Very classic and I prefer it to Hannah for some irrational reason!

ValiumSilverTongue · 22/01/2011 17:07

Same here. Hannah just isn't quite as nice but there are so many of them. Anna will date less than Hannah imo

flopsy1974 · 22/01/2011 17:15

Anna Elizabeth is a stunning, timeless classic. I know of 1 Anna who is in her mid 30's but no little ones. If we ever had another DD it would be on the list.

PigTail · 22/01/2011 17:19

I only know a grwon up and a 4 year old Anna.

I wanted to call DD Anna, but DS would only say "Hannah" so it's her middle name. Sometimes I regret it, as Anna is a timeless classic, and would have suited her.

perpetuallypregnant · 22/01/2011 19:21

I much prefer it to Hannah too for some reason. Probably because I'm sick to death of ms Montana.

Dd3 is Ava so I'll have Ava and Anna. Is this ok? My mum thinks they are too alike but I think they sound very different.
