Friend wants to name her DD Loralei, and has asked my opinion on it (she wants a proper opinion...this could make or break it! :o)

I really do like it but all I can think is Gilmore Girls...BUT I got the complete boxset for xmas and have been watching them ALOT!

So don't know if thats just me having watched to much, or a general consensus

Any thoughts? and if you do think "Gilmore girls" does it matter?! It's not a hugely popular show is it?

She loves it, but I can't decide what to say :o

btw, not hugely popular??????

Trillian - Rory is a Gilmore Girls reference Grin

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 20/01/2011 18:00

It's a rock to me, have also gone past it lots and can't think of it as a name as a result.

Greenwing · 20/01/2011 19:00

It is a dizzy, shallow, gold-digging dim wit, ie Lorelei Lee, Marilyn Munroe's famous character in 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' - the one with the song 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend' in.
Pretty sounding for a little girl but not a great name for a teacher, doctor or solicitor or any grown woman who wants to be taken seriously IMO.

FingonTheValiant · 20/01/2011 19:08

It's sound nice, but she's a river monster who lures men to their deaths...

BustleInYourHedgerow · 21/01/2011 00:49

River monster. Hmm. I like it shortened to rory, lorelei too flowery. Also a GG fan from breastfeeding days!

DS2 would have been Lorelei, shortened to Lori.

I've never seen Gilmore Girls, DP suggested it Grin

I'd be more likely to think of the siren who sings so that passing sailors are dashed against the rocks in German legend.

I think it's a beautiful name. My main concern would be the reputation she'd have among guys if people at school found out about where the name comes from!

Rhubarbgarden · 24/01/2011 18:59

I can't decide if this is a lovely name, or too long and fussy.

MelinaM · 24/01/2011 20:31

I love it, and Gilmore Girls too! Lovely name, go for it I say! x
