Well I like it.

CoteDAzur · 18/01/2011 17:51

Nice name.

onimolap · 18/01/2011 17:54

I know 3 of primary school age.

I don't know if/how the name gets shortened in the playground.

JamieLeeCurtis · 18/01/2011 19:25

Love it. Was not allowed it by DH, because in his day, where he grew up, a boy might have been teased. I still think he's wrong Grin

minkiemoo · 18/01/2011 20:59

Love it!

dottyaboutstripes · 18/01/2011 21:01

IMO it's THE best boy's name, I adore it :)

Partyof52010 · 18/01/2011 21:01

Really love it. I know one who is shortened to Gabe, apparently thats quite a popular shortening. But I like that too Grin

tummytickler · 18/01/2011 21:02

Really lovely. I know a few over the age of 7, but not met any baby Gabriels for ages.

thisisyesterday · 18/01/2011 21:02

it's fabulous.

but then, i am slightly biased

pearlgirl · 18/01/2011 21:05

FooffyShmoofer · 18/01/2011 21:14

I love it but worry about little shits on the playground using it to tease him.

PlanetLizard · 18/01/2011 21:39

Lovely

LacksDaisies · 18/01/2011 21:43

lovely name Smile

mellicauli · 18/01/2011 21:49

Love it, but would fear sarcastic comments about the angel Gabriel should he prove not to be the best behaved child in the class..

sophiesmummie · 18/01/2011 21:50

I wouldn't worry any more about silly schoolboys teasing a Gabriel(Gay...) than I would about them teasing a William (Willy). In fact I think the latter is far more teaseworthy in the minds of schoolchildren.

spiderlight · 18/01/2011 21:52

Love it - know a gorgeous one. It was on my list too.

Cataline · 18/01/2011 21:55

Fabulous name!!

IngridFletcher · 18/01/2011 22:00

I have a Gabriel (Gabe). If you chose it please prepare yourself for lots of people reading and hearing it as Gabrielle. Tis annoying.

KangarooCaught · 18/01/2011 22:01

I like it a lot, it's one of my dc's mn for a variety of reasons. It was on the potential first name list but when getting down to the final one, dh jettisoned it because people, especially dh's family, have a habit of shortening names and wasn't overwhelmingly sold on Gabe.

amistillsexy · 18/01/2011 22:13

We have the same experience as Ingrid Fletcher-our Gabriel is regularly referred to in print and speech as Gabrielle.

Some people shorten it to Gabe, but not many, and although it used to annoy me, it seems to suit him now he's a bit older (he's 7).

He does have ASD and alot of related challenging behaviours, though, and we have had people make the sarcastic comments, which has been quite hurtful considering his disability.

Having said all this, the main reaction we get is 'Oh, what a beautiful name,' which is just what we think! Smile

Eebs · 18/01/2011 22:16

Oh I love the name! DD1 would have been a Gabriel had she been a DS

happynewRia · 18/01/2011 22:47

Go for it!Smile We get the "elle" thing too, but I'm sure he'll soon put them straight when he's olderWink, anyone who teases him alsoWinkWink

If Gabe isn't your thing, someone told DH of Gib as a short version (not my thing, made me think of the BeeGeesWink, but it was her grandads name)

it isn't a common name here at all, but neither is Gabrielle, so that's OK.

good luckSmile
