I'm starting to think about names for DC2. We already have an Eve nn Evie. Popularity of Eve has always been an issue for me though so we would prefer DC2s name to be not too popular but also quite timeless/nothing too trendy.

We like non girly girl names:
Robyn (nn Bobby)
Harriet (nn Harrie)
Rosa
Zoe
Sadie (although DH unsure about this)

Boys names are much harder:
Samuel
Miles or Milo
Jacob (nn Jake)
Can't think of many others!

Thanks!

Harriet is fab - really strong name for a girl

Also really like Rosa for socialist connotations but that may not be your bag!!

Samuel is also very strong - good name everyone will know but not many of them around

mathanxiety · 18/01/2011 15:19

I like all your names, but Rosa, Zoe and Sadie stand out. Rosa would turn into Rosie I suspect, and I think that has a different feel to it (from Rosa Luxembourg/Rosa Parks to Rosie Is My Relative). So I think it would come down to Zoe or Sadie. Evie and Zoe/ Evie and Sadie both sound lovely as a pair (you could put Sarah on the BC).

For boys Milo and Jacob are very popular and very 'now'. Samuel is timeless and a fabulous name, and Sam/Sammy are boyish and cool.

There's Gabriel, Michael, Reuben, Patrick, Theodore (though Theo is popular), Joseph, Jonah, Jonas..

Rosa is a fantastic name. Love it. From your boys list Samuel is lovely. A classic and doesn't seem too popular these days.

Moffit · 18/01/2011 15:39

I really like Jacob for a boy (although it is becoming more popular IMO) and Rosa is so pretty for a girl.

shouldnotbehere · 18/01/2011 15:42

We have similar tastes. I love the name Robyn (nn Bobby). Not sure on Harriet, but love the nn Harrie. Also like Rosa, Zoe and Sadie.

Miles and Jacob are two of my favourite boys names. I also like Samuel.

The only name I dont like of yours is Milo. Miles and Robyn would be my favourites.

StarlightPrincess · 18/01/2011 15:44

I hate Rosa, whenever I hear that name I instantly imagine a middle aged Spanish cleaning lady, sorry!

Out of all of them I like Robyn and Jacob.

PlanetLizard · 18/01/2011 16:19

Robyn (nn Bobby) - not keen on names ending in bin/byn, sorry
Harriet (nn Harrie) - love Harriet, prefer Hattie to Harrie though
Rosa - lovely, very pretty
Zoe - OK, Zara nicer IMO
Sadie - like, also like Sarah which is a related name

Samuel - like
Miles or Milo - like both
Jacob (nn Jake) - like

HelenaRose · 18/01/2011 17:05

I like them all except Milo

sparkleandspin · 18/01/2011 17:55

I've heard that Milo is a chocolate drink in Australia so that has put me off a bit, plus the Tweenies connection.

I think Jacob might be getting too popular. It's in the top 5 in the US where some of our family live.

We are swinging towards Samuel with Miles or Patrick as a MN.

Other similar style name suggestions welcome. Thanks!

How about Alex (Alexandra) or Charlie (Charlotte) for a girl?

I don't like Milo, sorry. It sounds like the name of a pet.

sparkleandspin · 18/01/2011 18:27

Can't use Alex or Charlie for boy or girl as they are already taken but they are lovely.

Sadie is fab. Wish I could use, but its too close to my own name

pointydug · 18/01/2011 19:25

Robyn (nn Bobby) - I like the sound but don't like the y in it and if it's an i it's a boy's name
Harriet (nn Harrie) - not keen. Too horsey
Rosa - fantastic
Zoe - same meaning as Eve so I wouldn't
Sadie (although DH unsure about this) - like it a lot, great

Boys names are much harder:
Samuel - like it a lot
Miles or Milo - too polo
Jacob (nn Jake) - not keen

onimolap · 18/01/2011 19:33

Robyn - OK (nn Bobby) - no, goes with Roberta
Harriet - OK (nn Harrie) - no
Rosa - lovely
Zoe - nice
Sadie - lovely and underused

Samuel - nice
Miles -OK
Milo - nice, but a Tweenie
Jacob (nn Jake) - both lovely

sparkleandspin · 19/01/2011 07:53

Well my DH has just said a big fat no to Sadie :( and is rapidly going off Jacob :(

So it looks as though Rosa Harriet or Harriet Rosa for a girl and Samuel or Miles for a boy. I'm sure we will change our minds/tastes again in a few months!

Thanks for your comments! x

Harriet & Milo.

Hedwig3 · 19/01/2011 10:56

LOVE Rosa and Sam, really like Samuel.

JojoMags · 19/01/2011 20:00

Love Samuel, though its very popular in my neck of the woods. Not keen on Rosa (too girly) or Sadie. I love Harriet and it would definitely be on my list if I was capable of producing girls. Also like Robyn (what about Robby as a nn)and Zoe.

JojoMags · 19/01/2011 20:01

Actually Harriet Rosa is gorgeous! Smile

shinydiscoball · 19/01/2011 20:02

Love, love, love both Harriet and Miles

sparkleandspin · 20/01/2011 08:05

Great, such positive comments! I think Eve and Miles sounds really cute.

I've noticed that Harriet seems to be a popular choice on Mumsnet. I can't ever imagine it dating. Swinging towards Harriet Rosa me thinks.

It would be great to have suggestions for names in the similar style to Miles though. I love Felix but can't use it due to surname issues. I also like Tobias but DH thinks it sounds a bit harsh.
