DH says no. Growl. What do you all think...? Middle name likely to be Bethany.
Thanks x

I like it.

belgo · 16/01/2011 17:23

No point in asking us if your dh doesn't like it!

clumsymumluckybaby · 16/01/2011 17:42

i thought it was okay for a boy...hadnt expected a girl,

but it's also the name of the contractors the council pay to fix stuff in council houses (i used to work for them) though i doubt anyone else would make that connection!Grin

ashton is nicer IMO

monkeyfacegrace · 16/01/2011 17:43

Dexter morgan, anyone Grin

MoonUnitAlpha · 16/01/2011 17:44

Love it, like the little girl from Dexter!

It's a flower isn't it?

crazybutterflylady · 16/01/2011 17:44

I think Aster is unisex - I'd have thought Ashton was a boys name... maybe that's unisex too?

MoonUnit, I love you! DH said it was a made up name but we are massive Dexter fans so I have just proven him wrong Grin

Incidentally Dexter was our chosen name for a boy (not after the serial killer... Hmm )

Yes, Aster is a flower.

I like it.

ensure · 16/01/2011 17:58

I like it. Unusual but not weird.

orangepoo · 16/01/2011 18:01

I am also a Dexter fan, but believe that in Dexter it is Astor.

Anyway I do like it, only because of Dexter. Why don't you go for Astrid with nn Astor?

MoonUnitAlpha · 16/01/2011 18:08

I'm not so keen on Astor, it's a surname. Aster like the flower is nicer.

strongblackcoffee · 16/01/2011 18:09

I really like it

crazybutterflylady · 16/01/2011 18:16

I'm not so keen on Astrid, makes me think of Astrix for some reason?! I much prefer Aster to Astor.

Our 'rules' for a name were not too popular and easy to pronounce when written down... this definitely fits those.

Thanks for your feedback, has convinced me it is worth working on DH and not just writing it off as a crazy hormonal idea Grin

im coming around to it TBH...the more i say it,the more i like itSmile

FoxyRevenger · 16/01/2011 20:07

I like Smile but I would spell it Astor

Rhubarbgarden · 16/01/2011 20:11

Lovely flower, lovely name.

spidookly · 17/01/2011 12:18

Aster is the flower, Astor is the wealthy American family.

Aster is a nice forename for a girl. Astor not.

BayeauxT · 17/01/2011 14:51

Crazybuttefly - Aster is on our shortlist too (after getting Dexter boxset for Christmas!) DH was a bit meh at first but seems to be coming round to it.

I also like Astrid, as I have a Scandinavian background, but whenever I say it out aloud I always end up saying Ingrid by mistake!

There's a website - can't remember the name - where people comment on what it's like to have a particular name, and one poor girl was teased at school and called Ass-Turd! Hasn't put me off though, as experience has taught me whatever you call your child they will get a nickname of some sort - even something as plain as Ann!

BayeauxT · 17/01/2011 14:52

Oh dear - not Crazy Butt Fly of course... must be all that talk of turds!

maisiestar · 17/01/2011 14:54

What about Asta - seems more definitely girly. And I think it means 'star'.

rachel234 · 17/01/2011 14:59

Aster is lovely. Softer and more feminine than Astrid imo. Also like the (flower) meaning. And not overused. Great choice!!

NadiaWadia · 17/01/2011 15:06

Agree with maisiestar - spelled Asta it would be nice. I think it is a Scandinavian name. See 'Asta'a Book' by Ruth Rendell.

Spelled 'Aster' it seems less feminine. And the pronunciation must be the same?

planestrainsautomobiles · 17/01/2011 15:07

Not keen on Aster (seems like one of those made-up names). Astor is ok.

NadiaWadia · 17/01/2011 15:07

'Asta's Book'

crazybutterflylady · 17/01/2011 15:17

A friend just said it sounds like Asda :( for that reason, if I went with it, I would definitely stick with Aster.
