Boy's names thoughts

Deliaskis · 11/01/2011 14:10

So we have decided on a girls name (which I'm not saying in case you all hate it!), but have a shortlist of boys names, so any thoughts, feedback would be welcome:

Sebastian
Logan
Tobias
Abraham

No siblings, surname one syllable ending in s (but a soft z type of s like in Jones).

Probably no middle name as might use my maiden name, although if anybody has any suggestions of perfect middle names then they are also welcome. I tend to like more traditional/normal names for middle names e.g. James (although can't use this as it sounds odd with surname), Mark, Peter, Daniel, Matthew, etc.

Sebastian or Abraham.

SleepWhenImDead · 11/01/2011 14:22

Can't stand Sebastian. Tobias is the nicest, Toby a good all round boy name.

pamelat · 11/01/2011 14:31

Toby very nice but not Tobias

Wasnt Toby the dog from famous five? I would happily use Toby on its own.

Debs3013 · 11/01/2011 14:33

Nah that was Timmy

pamelat · 11/01/2011 14:35

Ah Blush

Prefer Toby

Debs3013 · 11/01/2011 14:36

I was a bit of a Famous Five freak as a kid - went through a stage of insisting on being called George!

Abraham is lovely and underused.

Don't like Seb/Sebbie as nicknames at all, seb reminds me of sebacious (oily).

PlanetLizard · 11/01/2011 14:44
  1. Abraham (Abe as nn)
  2. Sebastian
  3. Tobias
  4. Logan
mathanxiety · 11/01/2011 15:12

Tobias or Abraham.

Sebastian makes me think of horrible skin conditions and Logan is not in the same league at all / Johnny Logan, 1980s.

Deliaskis · 11/01/2011 15:14

Thanks ladies, useful comments! Might be veering back towards Abraham, which was our first choice months ago.

Tobias/Toby we had on there as being the most 'normal' name of the list in case we suddenly had a post-natal moment of wondering if they were all too unusual.

Crossing Logan off the shortlist altogether on the basis of feedback here!

Sebstian is lovely but getting quite common around here.

Don't mind Abraham with nickname Abe. Are you Jewish by any chance?

Edmundo · 11/01/2011 23:58

Logan is terrible. Tobias is my favourite there.

MaElsie · 14/01/2011 15:54

Will the s of tobias blur with the first letter of your surname?

Abraham might be difficult to get through school with but it sounds so nice shortened to Abe.

Not keen on Logan

Sebastian would work, but alliteration?
