Hello

We are still trying to choose a name for DS/DD. DH is being a pain, having written off Rafaella Hope as 'too frilly', Constance Rose as 'a plump girl's name'.

He likes Beatrice (middle name Hope), I do too, but I'm concerned it's become rather popular.I have nothing against popular names, but DH, DD and I have really unusual names and I am wondering if it's fair to give DD2 a name that she may share with a couple of other girls in nursery.

Any thoughts on Beatirce, it's niceness or it's popularity?

I like it and don't know any. My auntie had it as her middle name but she's the only link I know.

I do agree with your dh about the other names I'm afraid.

Popularity is why we've ruled out Poppy - still love the name though.

I love it :) And it's one of my middle names, too!

OneLieIn · 06/01/2011 21:46

Lovely. I have Betrys the welsh version

Highlandgirl · 06/01/2011 22:33

I love it and it's on our list but I'm also concerned it's becoming more 'used'...!!!

Rhubarbgarden · 06/01/2011 22:33

Loads of them round here. Bea is a cute nn.

ShowOfHands · 06/01/2011 22:34

DH's grandma was Beatrice and dd has it as a middle name. It's lovely.

GColdtimer · 06/01/2011 22:38

Love it and only know one who is 6

CharlieBoo · 06/01/2011 22:49

ok I'll go against the grain, I don't like it, too fuddy duddy, prim and proper...goody goody etc.

JoanneJo · 06/01/2011 22:51

Hi I just noticed your post. My Daughter is a Bea, she is 5 and as yet we have not met another child called Bea. She is just Bea Amelia not Beatrice and it was my husbands choice, I chose my younger daughter's name Fern. Have fun picking names!

Tuschinski · 07/01/2011 09:55

It's lovely, I only know one, she is 2 and known as Bea too.

Deciduousblonde · 07/01/2011 09:58

I don't know why there is such a concern over popularity. I always think that a name is popular for a reason ~ because it's lovely!

When I had my daughter 15 years ago I chose a rather unusual name for her..Evie. Now they are ten a penny. Of course I didn't have the problem of there being lots of Evies in playgroup/school, but I now have to put up with people saying that it is such a 'common' name.

If you like it, have it :)

JojoMags · 07/01/2011 18:20

Absolutely love Beatrice. It's a beautiful name and I don't know of many others, so its not that popular in our part of the world. Fraid I agree with your DH on Rafaella and Constance!

OldishMotherHubbard · 08/01/2011 22:11

Beatrice is lovely, and Bea is a cute nickname. It was my Nana's name, but DH vetoed it sadly. I know a Beatrice who is nearly two and one who is four.

I quite like Connie as a name, and know a few who are lovely little girls.

Best of luck with everything.

sheeplikessleep · 08/01/2011 22:13

Love it love it. My friend's older sister is called Beatrice, only one I know. Bea is a lovely nn too.

stickchildren3 · 08/01/2011 22:15

My Grandma's name, lovely. I wanted it for our DD2 but husband vetoed it. Bea is sweet and another version which I don't think anyone has mentioned is Beatty and of course, Betty.

ApertureScience · 08/01/2011 22:40

I'm with charlieboo, not a big fan. I always think would I have liked this name as child/teenager/adult and this one fails for me.

chaya5738 · 09/01/2011 11:30

I have five friends with children called Beatrice. I like the nickname Bea though. Very sweet.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 09/01/2011 11:35

Really like this name and only know one who is in DDs nursery.

nineyearoldsarerude · 09/01/2011 11:38

I don't like Beatrice but I don't like Constance or Rafaella either. Don't mind Hope.

OddBodd · 09/01/2011 20:18

Really don't like the name. It doesn't sound pretty. It sounds quite frumpy and clumsy to say. I do love Hope though.
