we know what little one will be called but not sure which way to place them
initials could be
F C A
A F C
F A C

can anyone see any problems with any or all of the above the above which is best or worst

the names are
a ambrose which is what he wll be known as
f frances
c conroy a family name that we need to use by tradition and not negotiable

worry that ambrose fc is too like ambrose fotball club and will cause teasing or even worse afc arsenal fc . not in london or the southeast so may not be aproblem .

but if we put frances 1st and call him ambrose is that more hassle than its worth for him in years to come being known by his second name or third name if we put conroy second

How about Ambrose Conroy Francis? Sounds nice and no initial problems. (I love Ambrose btw!).

mrsweasleyismyalterego · 05/01/2011 21:48

the problem with that is dp really loves frances would have loved it as a first name bit i couldn't stand the nn frank so would really rather keep it second but think it looks better with c better will have to persuade dp .

i love ambrose but know it'll shock some people in rl

Isn't Frances a girl's name?

ACF is good.

ReadingTeaLeaves · 05/01/2011 21:56

I think Francis is more common for boys but I've definitely come across at least one male Frances. OP if there's no family etc reason to spell it with an 'e' then Francis with an I may be less likely to attract spelling errors in the future.

I would go with AFC. After your DS is more than 1 month old it is unlikely that anyone will ever notice the football club link and even if they do it is very easy to laugh off.

mrsweasleyismyalterego · 06/01/2011 13:59

yes meant to write francis but typing is not my strong point

think will go for afc

I think Ambrose Francis Conroy not only looks better initial-wise, but sounds better too :)

ComeAlongPond · 06/01/2011 16:23

I prefer Ambrose Francis Conroy. And he'll have a surname too, so it won't just be AFC anyway, will it?

ShoppingDays · 06/01/2011 17:04

I like Francis best of the three names and would go for FCA. I'd avoid FAC as it's too similar to FAQ.

tebbles · 06/01/2011 17:31

I really don't see any problems with these, they are only minor issues IMO.

NewYearNewPants · 06/01/2011 17:33

what tebbles said.

Ambrose Francis Conroy has nicest ring to it, imo.

DancingThroughLife · 06/01/2011 17:36

AFC also stands for Amateur Football Club.

That doesn't really help, sorry. I like the order of the names when it's AFC though. TBH, it will only be you (and him when he's older) that notices. I don't think it will come up enough in conversation with people outside the family.

Saying that, DD was almost DFS, ended up as Des... Grin

GwendolineMaryLacey · 06/01/2011 17:38

AFC the best....Arsenal FC :)

happycamel · 07/01/2011 19:57

AFC with your surname at the end it will be fine. No one ever writes out initials for the first names only so Ann Jane Lucy Smith would only ever be AJL Smith of AJLS. Can't think of a time AJL would be written on its own.

Ambrose is a great name btw.
