Okay, so I'm 21 weeks so it's not a crisis. Just trying out different ideas. What do you think of the following?

Girls:

Helen
Patricia
Margo
Dee
Raine

Boys:

Yuri
Ludovic
Busby
Cosmo
Monty

German/English parents.

Thank you!

Helen -- nice and unusual, a sweet name; I like Helena too
Patricia -- really dislike this name, very outdated
Margo -- nice
Dee -- outdated nn for outdated Deirdre; dislike
Raine -- reminds me of Mills and Boon type novelists, bouffant hair, little fluffy dogs on velvet cushions and way too may rings (maybe because of Princess Di's stepmother)

Boys:

Yuri -- Love
Ludovic -- Love
Busby -- no, Busby Berkeley too 30s Hollywood
Cosmo -- love
Monty -- The Full Monty

Helen - Nice, also like Helena
Patricia - OK
Margo - Sounds like it sound be the nn for another name. Do like it though.
Dee - Same as Margo but don't like this one.
Raine - NO

Boys:

Yuri - ok
Ludovic - ok
Busby - no
Cosmo - like
Monty - again, like it but prefer the full name.

HelenaRose · 04/01/2011 08:06

Helen - Love it
Patricia - Quite out-dated
Margo - Like it
Dee - Like it, perhaps as a nickname?
Raine - Pretty

Yuri - Gagarin (but that's a good association!)
Ludovic - Like it
Busby - Never heard this before, but very easy to pronounce, etc.
Cosmo - Not keen
Monty - A friend had a dog called this, so I always associate it with pets (but that's just me!)

TheFeministParent · 04/01/2011 08:12

Helen....always think of rather large women
P nope
m nope
dee...... horrid
Raine.....okay

Yuri.... gellar
Lud.....nope
Busby BT
Cosmo Okay (can you carry this off?)
Monty Burns

Nightstar · 04/01/2011 15:28

Ludo - It's fantastic!

Margo - Excellent

Not so keen on the others

JojoMags · 04/01/2011 15:35

Totally agree with mathanxiety. Could have written that summary myself, except not keen on Ludovic. Love Yuri though.

strandednomore · 04/01/2011 15:36

Yuri just reminds me of that dr on Casualty.

ShowOfHands · 04/01/2011 15:43

I like Helen and all of your boys' names. Ludovic in particular. I know the most brilliant Ludo. He's clever, gorgeous, funny. Great name.

hellymelly · 04/01/2011 15:50

I'm a Helen, and I'm not large!!!Actually all the Helens I know are thin, strangely.I love my name and I would have chosen it for DD but it seemed a bit mean to give her my name.It is never used now and yet it is very classic and suits girls and older women alike.I also love Ludovic.Fab.

ShoppingDays · 04/01/2011 16:38

What's wrong with being rather large? :)

hellymelly · 04/01/2011 16:52

Nothing, although it sounded like it.In fact I am thin person run to flab.Being rather large would be far nicer than being a podgy thin person.

MistletoeMush · 04/01/2011 17:35

Love Helen. Quite like Margo, can it also be spelt Margot? can't remember. Its unusual but nice. Not keen on your other girls names. Quite like Ludovic with nickname Ludo. Your other boys names are just too unusual I think. Monty is not so bad if it was short for something.

Lamorna · 04/01/2011 17:50

I think it should be spelt Margot-isn't it a French name? I like Helen.

cece · 04/01/2011 17:57

Helen, was top of our list for DD but didn't suit her when she was born so we used another name. So like that best of your girls names.

The only boys name I like out of those is Monty.

How about Letitia? Like Patricia but nicer imo.

mathanxiety · 04/01/2011 18:43

I think in German the T of Margot would be pronounced, whereas spelled Margo the pronunciation would be as in French - maybe this is what the OP wants.

Rhubarbgarden · 04/01/2011 19:47

I love Helen and Margo (though I prefer the Margot spelling). Dd was nearly Helena.

Yuri and Ludovic are great names.

Janoschi · 04/01/2011 22:14

Yes I prefer the Margot spelling too but my other half is German and the way he says MarGOT sets my teeth on edge. He hates MarGOT, prefers Margo. Hence spelling.

Thank you so much for the replies! I'm leaning towards Yuri and Ludovic for a boy and Margo and Dee for a girl (Deborah on the BC but with both my mother and MIL sharing that name, I was looking for a different nickname to avoid confusion while still honouring family).

Found out we're team pink today, so we're really leaning towards:

Margo Deborah

Many thanks for all of your help!
