NOT considering it, but what is this a nn for? As in 'Topsy and Tim'?

I don't think Topsy in Topsy and Tim was short for anything, but I believe historically it was often used as a nickname for Harriet.
Might be more likely to be a nickname for Tabitha these days.

It's not short for anything. Was also a character in Uncle Tom's Cabin.

My neighbour's cat's name too... or it was, about 20 years ago. An outdated cat's name.

I had a budgie was called Topsy... about 35 years ago.

Am just relieved that you're not considering it Grin

some suggest it originally derived from topsail and was thus used commonly used for american slaves transported by sailing ship . thus topsy was used by harriet beecher stowe for the little slave girl in uncle tom's cabin

now think it might be a good nickname for josephine , tamsin ,tamara
