Middle name?

If you had one child who doesn't have a middle name would you give your second one?
We had awful trouble thinking of a name for DS but like two names this time (well I prefer one DH prefers another lol).
DS is 9 and I asked him if it would bother him if his brother had a middle name, he started off saying it would but changed his mind a few days later. I just wonder if he will change his mind back again and be upset or even if he does whether he is old enough to get over it quite quickly.

Mmm, I probably wouldn't have one with no middle name and one with a middle name.

But you could give your DS1 a middle name now if you wanted (course you'd have to find something he likes!)

I'd probably treat both boys' names the same - either both have a middle name or neither do.

I'm with other - all or nothing for both.

I think it's a lovely idea to let DS1 choose his own middle name now and register it for him.

(as long as it's not Woody Lightyear or anything ).

I have one child with TWO middle names and another with just one. When I had the first I thought he might be the only child I was having and wanted to get certain names in. Luckily the second one was a girl who wouldn't have suited either of those 2nd names.

A friend of mine is the only child of about 5 siblings who doesn't have a middle name - all the others do. I think she does wonder why they didn't give her one.

My brother has a middle name; both my siblings have short first-names which can't be shortened. And mine is loooooong and has no middle.

I did feel odd as a child. (I've since got over it, I hasten to add. )

Might grow up thinking you ould not be bothered to think of one for him like my DH does with his parents! I think its a bit extreme tho of him to think that and they obviously didnt take the time to explain like you have to your DS so maybe ok?

My mum and dad couldn't agree on my older brother's first name for weeks so they didn't bother with a middle name. So none of us have got a middle name which I think is the fairest option.

When you are a child you can fixate on every difference between siblings and see favourtisim everywhere in my opinion so I'm glad we were all treated the same.

I don't have a middle name, my younger brother does. Never been an issue.

Another one here with 2 DC. DS (older) only has 1 middle name, DD has 2. We used family names and knowing we were only having 2 DC, decided to get them all in. I don't think DS feels hard done by (he is only 4 though!)

I am the only one of 4 siblings with no middle name. Never once bothered me or made me feel inferior. I just figured my parents had run out of names by the time they got to me

My husband is annoyed that his older brother has two middle names and he only has one (and a girly one at that). He has mentioned it a couple of times now that we are looking at names, and though it may not have bothered him much as a child, the very fact that he is still raising the issue at nearly 40 years old goes to show it is never worth doing!!

Good input ladies....I think I will work on getting it down to one name just to be safe, DS is very sensitive so I think it's better not to risk it.

You could always have another child, to use the extra name

Or you could let DS choose a middle name for himself and get his name changed by deed pool (I meant that as a joke, but the more I think about it I think actually, why not?!)
