I'm posting this for my sis, (genuinely!).

She would love some objective feedback on her baby girl's name list:

Maria-Chantal
Amelie
Michelle
Ava-Maria
Anastasia
Colette

Be as brutal as you want, honest responses are appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I like Colette but not the others. Ava-Maria is a bit much and Maria-Chantal is really not v nice imho, sorry.

MarthaLovesMatthew · 19/12/2010 20:05

No need to apologise! Thanks for replying :)

Amelie

MadAboutQuavers · 19/12/2010 20:07

I think they're all far too sickly and chavvy apart from Colette

MarthaLovesMatthew · 19/12/2010 20:10

Okey dokey. Keep em coming folks...if you can be arsed.

DH wanted Anastasia if DC2 is a girl but it would sound ridiculous with our surname- if your sis' surname is Jones or something one-syllable and not too unusual then it could work.

ShoppingDays · 19/12/2010 20:20

My favourites from the list are Anastasia or Colette.

Maria-Chantal - prefer just Maria
Amelie - OK but Amelia nicer IMO
Michelle - don't like, sorry
Ava-Maria - too much like Ave Maria
Anastasia - lovely :)
Colette - very nice :)

AllieW · 19/12/2010 21:55

I love Anastasia and Colette. Amelie I like but that's very popular. Not so keen on the others.

HelenaRose · 19/12/2010 22:34

Maria-Chantal - one or the other, not both
Amelie - "oh, after that French film?"
Michelle - lovely
Ava-Maria - like Ave Maria?
Anastasia - beautiful
Colette - nice. I have a good friend with that name.

Being a bit harsher than usual because they aren't your choices...

LeakMyWiki · 19/12/2010 22:41

Is she French?

Anastasia
Colette

lovely

Amelie - very pretty & very popular

Others - no

mathanxiety · 19/12/2010 23:05

Maria-Chantal -- I would go with Marie-Chantal, which I love.
Amelie -- meh
Michelle -- like a lot
Ava-Maria -- too like Ave Maria (= 'hail Mary')
Anastasia -- Love
Colette -- Love

So Marie-Chantal, Anastasia and Colette, with Michelle getting my vote too.

tomgoodswife · 19/12/2010 23:07

Amelie and Colette for me, not too keen on the others

cece · 19/12/2010 23:10

Maria-Chantal - like Maria on it's own but dislike Chantal
Amelie - pretty
Michelle - OK
Ava-Maria - like either on their own but not keen on hyphenated names
Anastasia - like this
Colette - bit hard sounding

BrigitBigKnickers · 19/12/2010 23:19

Maria-Chantal- mouthful and Chantal (Chantelle) on its own is awful.
Amelie- very pretty
Michelle- very 70's
Ava-Maria- not keen
Anastasia- pretty but a bit hard sounding
Colette- so so- what about Nicolette- much classier

Bonsoir · 19/12/2010 23:22

The only name I like from that list is Anastasia.

I don't like hyphenated names (and especially not with Marie or Maria - dullsville) and Chantal is an awful name - the French version of Brenda.

darleneconnor · 19/12/2010 23:23

Maria-Chantal- no double barrels please but alone those names are nice esp Chantal
Amelie a bit too trendy
Michelle terribly dated
Ava-Maria as above
Anastasia very pretty
Colette dont like

PracticallyImperfectInEveryWay · 20/12/2010 01:25

Like Amelie and maybe Anastasia at a stretch but not fond of any others.

Nightstar · 21/12/2010 21:00

Where is your sister from? These names are a wierd mix of french, Italian and Russian. Is she a Catholic by any chance?

Maria is pretty

Chantal - seriously? Well if you want her to be a porn star

Michelle - too Eastenders and really dated

Amelie is lovely

Ava-Maria - They sing Ave-Maria at funerals, too wierd unless deeply religious

Anastasia - nice but Very iron curtain, I think there should be a connection to use such a blatently foreign name

Colette - sounds too harsh, not pretty

(you did say Honest, right?)

QueenGigantaurofMnet · 21/12/2010 21:04

my name is michelle and i hate it.

but then that may be because it dates me, there are at least 10 others in the school playground and everyone pronounces it "mee shell" which grates horribly.

ava maria will have people singing hymns at her.

amelie is stupidly popular

anastasia is beautifull

collette - nah

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/12/2010 21:14

Would only go with Collette. Have never liked hyphenated names.

Chantal, Michelle and Ave-Maria, sorry Ava-Maria are just awful.

Amelie is ok but was popular about 5 or 6 years ago and Anastasia is alright but makes me think of the pop star Anastacia.

Just out of interest, are you planning on telling your sister any of this feedback or are you planning on getting her on MN and letting her find out for herself Xmas Grin

i read the book of the tv series Sugar Rush and Sugar's real name in that was Ave Maria and her brother was Jesus. Her mum was very chavvy but religious.
Love Amelie as it's my fave film, and Anastasia but there seems to be soooo many little Amelies at the moment

Komondor · 22/12/2010 10:53

Maria-Chantal - too much / pompous
Amelie - prefer Amelia
Michelle - love
Ava-Maria - too much / pompous
Anastasia - I like if you have a Russian connection
Colette - dont mind it, but dont particularly like either

wahwahwah · 22/12/2010 10:58
