Paloma?

We had our 20 week scan on Friday and the sonographer told me (dh)doesn't want to know sex, that the baby is a girl! We have very different ideas when it comes to names and struggled to name our 3 ds. However last night when we were watching 'Strictly,' Paloma Faith came on and my dh said although her name was unusual he quite likes it and I have to say so do I. I think it will end up being a name we like but are not brave enough to use. What does everyone else think??

I think it was also the name of one of the contestants on the Apprentice. I think it's quite pretty but always think of Una Paloma Blanca when I hear it! ()

highlighterpen · 19/12/2010 11:03

oh no no no. I don't like it. Sounds like a medical condition.

ValiumShimmer · 19/12/2010 11:13

Oh I love it!!

I know the Julio Iglesias song, bero so what! All unusual names are going to remind people of something and a Julio Iglesias song isn't that bad. Most people know that it also means dove don't they? I think it has a beautiful meaning too.

Firawla · 19/12/2010 12:29

It makes me think of the apprentice one but probably by the time your baby is born people would have forgotten that. I like the meaning of it more than I like the sound of the name i think, but it may be that the apprentice one puts me off as I found her really annoying

ShoppingDays · 19/12/2010 13:07

I like it - very pretty :)

muminthemiddle · 19/12/2010 13:10

OOOOOOOh I like it!

sadiesadiemarriedlady · 19/12/2010 13:20

LOVE IT!!!!!

sparkle12mar08 · 19/12/2010 13:41

Paloma Picasso or Paloma Faith. Both as bad as each other. Awful, imo only of course!

nancy10 · 19/12/2010 15:23

Thanks for your replies. I didn't watch the apprentice, so can't comment on that Paloma. I like it and it was odd that the name we both quite liked is unusual and yet we can't agree on any other names. And I did think more of you would hate it! Grin

i don't hate it but i would find it a bit unusual for a child with no spanish heritage to have this name.

littleElif · 19/12/2010 16:56

I love it - was on our shortlist for DD2 :)

nymphadora · 19/12/2010 17:13

I like it

KittyTwoShoes · 20/12/2010 20:40

It's a beautiful name imo. It does make me think of Paloma Picasso but once people know your DD they will associate it with her first so I don't suppose that really matters.

What are your other DD's names?

SE13Mummy · 20/12/2010 23:04

I have taught a lovely Paloma and as I don't know any others, rather like it!

mathanxiety · 21/12/2010 06:30

A beautiful name imo. Unusual and yet easy to pronounce, and has a lovely meaning.

seeker · 21/12/2010 06:44

I think it depends a bit on your last name. Is it a very British, soen to earth sort of name? If so, I don't think it would work.

cumbria81 · 21/12/2010 07:57

I think it's awful. Sorry.

nancy10 · 21/12/2010 10:46

This will be our first dd, I doubt we'll call her Paloma as I'm too much of a wimp to go for something out of the ordinary. But I do think it's pretty. Might consider it for a middle name!

cowboylover · 21/12/2010 15:11

I really like it! Its on our long version of the shortlist if that makes sence.

mathanxiety · 21/12/2010 18:14

If you love it, why opt for something safe?

ivykaty44 · 21/12/2010 18:18

I muct admit the other poster is right, it sounds like a heart condition Sad

Nightstar · 21/12/2010 18:50

It sounds like some kind of mole to me. "I'm sorry madam, we've sent your mole to be analysed at the lab and i'm afraid it's a paloma."

There is a colour of horse called Palamino, which sounds slightly nicer.

Or a city called Palermo, which is in Italy i think

Sorry clutching at straws to say something nice!

It's awful.It sounds like a medical complaint.

littleomar · 21/12/2010 21:43
