I'll eat my hat if that name comes back!

There are some names which I've been quite surprised to see returning. For example, Edith was my granny's name. Much as I loved her, I was never keen on the name and can only presume the little Ediths now arriving are due to the Radio 1 DJ or something.

Are there any names which would surprise you if they were revived? For me, the list might include:

Girls

Doris
Ermyntrude
Gertrude

Boys

Arnold
Herbert
Roderick

But I can't imagine seeing some come back in the very near future.

Ooo Derek's a good one as in Wayne

Leanne/Leigh-Anne and Joanne were very popular when I was young, seem to have gone right out of fashion though and I'd be surprised if they came back any time soon. Same with Trac(e)y and Michelle.

I am srprised someone has put Jane. I would have used it myself if I didn't already have someone in the family with that name.

Oh and Barbara was on my (secret from DH) list for DC3!

Oh and I also had Ronald (Ronnie on my list too, except the nn rhymes with DS1's name, so I couldn't have it.

Haha and just read Letitia - that was also on our list for DC3...

Oh well, definitely off trend then Grin

I don't think you could rule out any name. They all come back 'in' eventually.

Ada is my tip for one that is/will come back.

I I can't see Sharon come back and in a few years I think Joshua and Alex will be very rare as there are so many of them atm! There will be a backlash.

I also can't see Sharon ever coming back - Maureen, Doreen, Doris, Margaret or Cheryl.

AllieW · 18/12/2010 14:07

Marjorie is another I think.

I saw a card for a Blythe on cbeebies the other day!

FessaEst · 18/12/2010 14:11

We know a Herbie and a Herbert, both under 2!

AllieW · 18/12/2010 14:11

Glad I'm not the only one who keeps an eye on that for trends! If I were more organised/obsessed I'd probably note them down and keep a chart!

NorbertDentressangelOnTheTree · 18/12/2010 14:35

You know a Norbert ? Xmas Shock

How old? Do they shorten it to Norbs or anything else?

tummytickler · 18/12/2010 14:38

I think Margaret is back, actually.
I also agree with Ada. People will want to move away from Ava, Eve, Evie and Eva, but will all go for Ada!

I love Sharon. It has such a lovely sound, but I fear it would take a lot to get away with being a Sharon now after the 'Sharon and Tracey' image . . . . hmm - could I use it? I wonder?

I actually really like Roddie, so could consider Roderick.

Dumbledoresfairy · 18/12/2010 15:38

I know a Trevor, or I did once. He would be 7 years old now.

Another name we won't see: Gay.
