Nathaniel, Henry or Robbie

Can't decide. My DH and I love Nathaniel for our third, imminent son, but everyone we suggest it to grimaces. Would we be doing a horrible thing calling him Nathaniel (Natty for short). Other possibilities are Henry and Robbie (Robert). Middle name will be George, unless Robert, in which case Henry for a middle name. What do you think?

Oh, and Fenwick (nn Fenn) is another possibility!

I love Nathaniel. However, I would use Nate for a nn - Natty too close to Nutty for me!

Henry, Robert and George are great names as well but Nathaniel is the best. I don't like Fenwick.

I like Nathaniel and Henry. I know two little Nathaniels (one is 4 and one 5) but one of them is spelt Nathanael (legitimate spelling btw).

The Nathaniel I spend most time with was affectionately known as Naniel when he was littler because his cousins had trouble pronouncing the name to start with. That got abbreviated to Nanny but he decided recently that he was too big to be called that!

Not so keen on Fenwick (which I presume is pronounced Fennick?), sorry.

Henry is fab

The ones in the OP are all good solid names.

Fenwick however is a department store.

Nathaniel is gorgeous but prefer Nat as nn.

Thanks for all your input. Think he would become Nat when older. Henry is my favourite, but hubby is not keen. He wouldn't veto it (he has others he really hates) just be quietly resigned, which would be a shame! Anyone else ignored DPs wishes when naming children?

I hate the nn Nate as I knew an awful Nate who was unspeakable to me. So I'd go for Henry.

I'm just a biased old cow really.

And when you get to be fifty (as he is), it's a silly name. It's not a name for a grown man, trust me it sounds daft.
