dc2 is a girl (we had 20 wk scan last week)

we had plenty of boys names as we were secretly (hadn't even realised till had scan) expecting another boy.

so erin or maisie?

ds is noah. our surname begins with L so names with that in don't sound right - too comic book character-y! :)

I love Maisie, but my daughter is massively into Maisy mouse so that kind of rules it out for me! If that connection doesn't bother you, then I would say it's preferable to Erin.

soppypreggyloon · 15/12/2010 13:09

i'd forgotten about the mouse - having a boy does that to you!

mind the ark didn't put us off noah!

My vote is for Erin. She would be far more elegant than a Maisie any day!

sparkle12mar08 · 15/12/2010 13:41

Erin, definately. Maisie is much too cutsie and babyish and will date badly. Erin is classic and timeless.

Teds77 · 15/12/2010 13:43

Both lovely. My niece is Maisie and would have been Noah if she'd been a nephew.

See whether she looks like a Erin or Maisie when she arrives?

ShoppingDays · 15/12/2010 17:55

I prefer Maisie, it's a very pretty name.

Not keen on Erin, just don't like the sound of it.

zachsmama · 15/12/2010 18:12

I like Erin. I think Maisie sounds a bit babyish - fine when you're a toddler but not so much when you're a 35 year old barrister.

strandedatseasonsgreetings · 15/12/2010 18:15

Erin is lovely - it is dd2's middle name.

HelenaRose · 15/12/2010 19:24

I know a twenty-year-old Maisie and it sounds ridiculous on her. I can imagine she would have been a sweet toddler, but it isn't an adult name.

Rhubarbgarden · 15/12/2010 20:08

Erin. Maisie just makes me think of sweetcorn.

ZuzuandZara · 16/12/2010 00:44

I named one of my DTs Maisie after a friend of my parents who died aged about 90, not a babyish name at all!
Having said that, choose Erin, don't want Maisie to be too popular Grin

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/12/2010 05:24

Too late for Maisie not to be popular. I know about 15 and don't even live in the UK>
IIW the OP, I'd go for Erin, lovely name even though it has associations of the little darling who made my DD's first couple of months at her last school a living nightmare.

KittyTwoShoes · 16/12/2010 11:40

I can't see Maisie on anyone older than a toddler really.

Erin is beautiful imo.

Hedwig3 · 16/12/2010 13:00

Noah and Erin sound fantastic together!

cumbria81 · 16/12/2010 13:18

I love Erin.

Maisie is a ridiculous name.

craftynclothy · 16/12/2010 13:28

Erin. Though I'm biased cos dd1 is an Erin Smile.

cumbria81 I was born in Cumbria in 1981 Smile

itfcbabe · 16/12/2010 15:50

erin is a lovely name

maisie is very popular but it only makes me think of mouse!

Bagpusstree · 16/12/2010 15:56

My 9 week old is Erin. Lovely name, have only had compliments on how beautiful it is, no 'eurgh' faces yet!

EauRudolph · 16/12/2010 16:06

Agree with the others, Erin is lovely but Maisie is far too cutesy and babyish.

ForFestiveSake · 16/12/2010 16:12

I prefer Erin - Maisie just puts me in mind of a crop like rye or wheat tbh.

CharlieBoo · 16/12/2010 16:34

Very very different names... Maisie is cutesy (although I know of a very old lady Maisie). Erin for me is sooo dull and a bit prim n proper.... Not pretty or girly just boring... Sorry.

messylittlemonkey · 17/12/2010 09:57

I have a 5yo Maisie and get sick of people saying it's cutesy and won't suit a grown up - all of the Maisies I came across were old ladies until the name was revived recently, so it's daft to say that it doesn't work for adults.

Plus, it is becoming a lot more popular so there will be a whole generation of adult Maisies in twenty years time. That said, I would avoid Maisie now for the simple reason that it is too popular. Erin is nice btw.

messylittlemonkey · 17/12/2010 10:01

In what way is Maisie a ridiculous name? Ridiculous is surely something like Tinsel or Coconut (off the top of my head!). Sorry, but Maisie is just normal and pretty, imo and we've only ever had compliments on it.

Rant over Grin

Whelk · 17/12/2010 14:07

Its not a ridiculous name at all messylittlemonkey. Really pretty.
I like both tbh.

5GoldenFimbos · 17/12/2010 14:12
