Rafferty or Fintan

My baby boy is here. Two days old and we need to decide between the above two names so am here for some outsiders opinions.

He has fair hair and will most likely keep his blue eyes.

Rafferty or Fintan I wonder?

I love Fintan too but there are lots of Fins about so Rafferty will be a bit different.

Don't like Finn names I'm afraid.

Rafferty is a lovely name - not so keen on Fintan (it sounds a bit 'made up' to be honest) - although I do like 'Finn.'

i love fintan- i knew one growing up and he was a lovely boy .

Fintan is much better. Rafferty is a 'new' trendy name (seems celeby too like Dexter) whereas Fintan is an old Saint name with loads of history.

Rafferty!! It will probably get shortened to Raffy which I think is really cute as well, I know of one already and loved it when I heard it.

Rafferty is a surname ('Gerry Rafferty'). And I think it's faddish.

Now Raftery, while a surname, is a much better name, imo, if you want something along the lines of Rafferty but slightly different. Antaine O Raifteiri was an important Irish poet from the early 1800s.

Love Rafferty. Am a bit cross that Finn has become so ubiquitous as I really like it. Would you consider Finnian rather than Fintan?

Finbar means fair haired so Fintan probably has a similar meaning which might suit your fair hair boy (congratulations btw).

Personally, I already have a Finbar (dismissed Fintan as I couldn't make it sound like a real name, even though I know it is one) and if I had another baby (I won't) I would love to call him Rafferty.

I loved the name Rafferty by was vetoed by DP - we plumped for Finn (short for Finnegan)
