Clement (nn Clem)

Ok, so I've only just had our 2nd child (Arthur Henry) and I'm already pondering names for a third (don't worry we're thinking a 3 year gap is sensible).

Anyhow, I was thinking about slightly more unusual names and thought of this one. I do know a Clement who is only slightly older than me. I really like Clem as a nn which is what the child would be known as, I think (all supposing DH were to agree). What do folk think?

I like Clement. It is my granddad's name.

My DH likes Clement and I can see the appeal BUT it always makes me think 'inclement weather' and Clem makes me think of 'clammy hands'

Hubby doesn't agree so that is probably just me!

I'm from NE England and have never heard of Clem being used as slang for anything...

I've got a Clement (20 months old) and love the name! :) My husband hadn't realised how rare the name was until after we named him! :o It's not that people had never heard of the name but that they said they'd not heard/thought of it for a while, etc!

The only negative with me is my accent! I'm American, my husband is from London, and we live in Scotland. So as you might imagine, I've got a bit of a muddled accent! And I often have to spell his name before people realise what I said! I'll say "Clement", people will say "I've never heard that name before", I'll spell it out, and then they say "Oh, Clement!" - don't think I make the NT clear enough or something.

But in general, it think everyone always says how lovely the name is. And I agree! :o My Clement is so sweet & charming, smiles at everyone he meets - so I think his name suits him very well, IMHO!
