Any suggestions? As a middle name in case DC does arrive at Christmas rather than new year. Are there any nice ones that anyone can think of?

Eira is pronounced A-rah (with a as in hay and the ending is usually short rather than soft). I have come across it pronounced Eye-rah (with a softer ending) too.

Eirlys is pretty much like Ayrliss

I like Emmanuel for a boy and Emmanuelle for a girl. I think that most kids will be unfamiliar with the film which is the usual objection to the latter! Manny is a sweet nn.

DS2 was an Xmas baby, he's named Rowan. Smile

rebmadrid · 08/12/2010 21:19

My nephew was Xmas day and is called Emmanuel, shortened to Manny or Manu. But I think most adults over the age of 35 are going to snigger at Emmanuelle.
I taught a girl called Eira once and she was half Swedish, so maybe it exists there, it's a lovely name.
Loads of good welsh names, makes me wish I was having another baby!
In Spain they have Belén (emphasise the len)which means Bethlehem.

rebmadrid · 08/12/2010 21:21

PS In Spain there are a lot of Santis, short for Santiago or (rarely) Santiaga. They also have Trinidad (Trini).

NotAnotherNewNappy · 08/12/2010 21:22

Have we had Bianca yet? Not exactly twee!

rebmadrid · 08/12/2010 21:24

PPS Sorry I also forgot Nieves (snow)

Mumsnut · 08/12/2010 21:27

Holly isn't a twee name! Xmas Angry One of my best friends (she was an Xmas eve baby) is called Holly. I love it.

muminthemiddle · 08/12/2010 23:17
