Jack or Sam?

Which do you prefer?

We are really stuck for a boy's name and DP has finally found two he could work with - Jack and Sam.

Middle names will be Daniel Anthony and last name is Thomas so that cuts out a lot of options!

His big sister is called Holly so the name has to match with that ...

I've always really liked Jack, so that's my vote :)

Although Sam is very nice too. A good selection!

ShoppingDays · 07/12/2010 03:04

Much prefer Sam.

Jack Daniel... is like Jack Daniels whiskey.

WingDad · 07/12/2010 03:09

Mmmmm, JD & Coke Grin

PracticallyImperfectInEveryWay · 07/12/2010 03:36

Sam gets my vote, would have been for DD had she been a boy :)

ben5 · 07/12/2010 03:38

hard choice but would go with sam as there are alot of jacks around. like them both

Hedwig3 · 07/12/2010 10:24

Love Sam!

But I like Jack too.

Highlandgirl · 07/12/2010 10:37

Sam.....!!! Far to many Jacks around.

tattycoram · 07/12/2010 10:39

Both are lovely. Sam more common than Jack ime

expectingno3 · 07/12/2010 12:35

Sam is slightly less popular at the moment, I'd go for that. Its on our my list too.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 07/12/2010 12:38

I'd do a blend, something like Sack or Jam :)

georgieseale · 07/12/2010 12:49

definitely Sam. Jack's nice but seems very popular now

bigbluebump · 07/12/2010 13:00

Both very common and a little dull as a result.

Love Anthony though!

MelinaM · 07/12/2010 23:45

I'm sorry, but Sam is a very popular name amongst our canine friends ..no offence! Jack is nice, but as the other ladies have said it's very popular at the mo. Daniel is a lovely name why not use that? x

ShanahansRevenge · 07/12/2010 23:50

I love Anthony too. Jack and Sam are very, very popular where I live. Of the two I prefer Jack.

rachel1970 · 08/12/2010 12:05

Aren't there enough Jacks and Sams around already Smile. Honestly, they are both incredibly common and yes, a little dull as a result.

Anthony, on the other hand, is lovely and less overused.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 08/12/2010 21:43

Both lovely names but way too popular, sorry. How about Jake or Jacob? Also popular but hopefully not quite as common.

You could show your husband the top 100 (here: www.statistics.gov.uk/statbase/Product.asp?vlnk=15282) then tell him to pick one that's at least outside the top twenty?

Agree Anthony is lovely.

mopsyflopsy · 08/12/2010 22:26

I agree that Sam and Jack are incredibly common and overused imo - it is just a matter of time before they fall out of favour and start to feel 'dated'.

Anthony is really nice! There are actually lots and lots of classic nice boys' names outside of the top 100Smile.

Komondor · 09/12/2010 16:25

John (nn Jack) or Samuel (nn Sam).

I like John Thomas best.

ChickensHaveNoMercyForTurkeys · 09/12/2010 16:27

Isn't a 'John Thomas' a penis?

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 09/12/2010 17:20

John Thomas????

GrinYes John Thomas is a euphemism for penis!!!! Haha!

nooka · 10/12/2010 06:00

As others have said both Sam and Jack are very very common (as in many many boys are called them). I really like both Daniel and Anthony, and think that two names really are enough (I have three and it is a nuisance).

Daniel Anthony Thomas
Anthony Daniel Thomas

Both good, and both work well with Holly.

AllieW · 10/12/2010 09:45

Sam is probably better but I'm not sure that short names go with the two middle names.

Samson Daniel Anthony has a better flow, I think, and you could still call him Sam (I personally prefer Samson to the more popular Samuel).

Secretwishescometrue · 10/12/2010 09:46

Much prefer Anthony or Daniel as first names then Sam or Jack but if I had to choose id pick Sam over Jack... Holly is a very cute name btw
