dd is 7 and has lovely name that everyone raised eyebrows at when we had her. There are a few now though so I like to think I started a trend.

Can anyone give me the names they would like to name their dc if they were brave enough. I am not a 'chav' btw but just don't want a name that I have some previous connection to....tricky as I live in a big village with a big school.

so ladies ..go for it please.

I once knew a brother / sister called Spike and Pearl - thought this was the most trendy combo ever.
Also girls:
Kitty
Maeve
Merryn
Mayben (not sure of the spelling but think its such a pretty name - welsh maybe?

Boys:
Dexter
Quinn

my Sky/Skyler and the one on the thread are both boys. But is unisex yes.

We have (pretty much) decided on Max /Maxim/Maximilian for our little boy due in Jan. Which has surprised everyone by being er... normal... Wink

Dd's 'boy name' was Dexter. She is Aphra.
Ds's girl name was Ariadne
Dc3's girl name was (still is, if scan wrong!) Capella.

I also like Axel, Linus, Leon, Evander (my new fave but dh says no Sad), Calvin...

georgieseale · 07/12/2010 12:52

hugo, jasper, jake, bruno, jemima, pixie, hatti

bishboschone · 07/12/2010 16:16

I love calvin but it has so many under connatations..Jasper I love but can't see DH going for it. Keep them coming , I am going to write down my favourites and tell him he has to choose one of them Wink

Casper is a mixture of Calvin and Jasper, well sort of...

Oscar has a similar sound, nice though popular.

ValiumSingleton · 07/12/2010 17:57

Sorrel goes well with Willow.

ValiumSingleton · 07/12/2010 17:59

I think buffy (tv series) might have left Willow open to that C word accusation. But Sorrel is not on any TV show is it??

I don't think that Willow has become very popular very quickly. I think that tends to be what kills a name. By 'killing' it, I just mean, one minute part of its charm is that it's unusual but lovely and then the next moment it's in the top five and that happened in under 5 years!

bishboschone · 07/12/2010 18:31

Yeah , when we named her lots of people said was I a Buffy fan?...err no..I haven't ever seen it..I found it in a baby name book!(very uncool)

I love Sorrel and Oscar..am going to have to work on DH.

Ambrose
Raphael
Ortho
Arlo
Dorian

Persephone
Sappho (yes nice lesbian poet connotations but I know someone who pulls it off)
Alexis
Honeysuckle
Bettany

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/12/2010 19:23

Bay is nice for a boy as well.

Gilda (like guelder rose)

trying to think of nice plant names - the best is Rosebay Willowherb IMO, hence thinking of Bay Xmas Smile

Like Tristan for a boy as well. Seraphina for a girl.

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 07/12/2010 19:24

I think these names are really cool:

Mary
Gregory

EBDteacher · 07/12/2010 20:00

Ohh I like Skyler!!

And I LOVE Saul for a boy.

But I'm afraid my guilty secret when I was pg was Shane. For a boy or a girl! And now I have DS (who has a very socially accepatble.. even Bodenesque... name Confused) I secretly think he looks like a Shane!!

EBDteacher · 07/12/2010 20:04

DS's name is Oscar BTW, which turns out to be very mainstream now. I can also spell acceptable in RL Blush.

I think you need this thread I started some time ago... www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/1020405-I-think-we-need-to-up-the-pool-of-unususl

Imarriedafrog I have a friend named Saskia who has a sister named Romilly (and one of the reasons we named our DD1 Romilly). Would have a loved a Saskia, too - only it might've been a bit weird for us (not to mention my friend's parents!).

I do think they go well together. My friend's parents were art teachers (in case you hadn't guessed) and Saskia was named after Rembrandt's wife and then Romilly after the son of Augustus John, the Welsh painter.

Go for Romilly - it's such a lovely name and it really suits ours (she now 5 and a half) - we have to repeat it sometimes - but it's generally well received - though sometimes people think she's called Emily/Romany and we've even had Bromley!! And, even though it's not common, I know 3!! I think Pixieonaleaf has one, too...
