What do you think of Florence? The only response from family has been a raised eyebrows!

Any other suggestions most welcomed!

fallingandlaughing · 06/12/2010 13:46

I like it!

Highlandgirl · 06/12/2010 13:55

MsFox...! I like Florence a lot, but worry about nn Flo Fox...could be quite cool or it could sound maybe a bit too much like a porn star..! IMO - Sorry Xmas Smile

Also I think a name has a lot to do with your location..where do you live? Florence is very popular in the South West at the moment.

I think it's best not to mention any names to any family member apart from DH/DP...! People will come round in time and won't shouldn't say anything once tot has arrive.

Do you have any other names in mind??

ValiumSingleton · 06/12/2010 14:09

Good sur name. Meredith or Felicity!

5GoldenFimbos · 06/12/2010 14:11

Flo Fox not so good.

Susannah would be better.

MsFox · 06/12/2010 14:11

Oh no, porn star?!

We are actually in the South West...hadn't noticed that it is popular though.

Love Meredith, although might be too 'out there' for DH. I like Felicity, but worry about 'Flic' nn.

We have 2 boys already, Harrison and George.

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 06/12/2010 14:16

Madeleine would go well with your boys' names but is also quite popular, and I guess Mad Fox wouldn't be a good thing to be called!

Penelope is a good name - but I used to know a Penny Fox so that might be why I think it works ok.

Samantha is obviously out.

MsFox · 06/12/2010 14:19

Grin Mad Fox

MsFox · 06/12/2010 14:20

Is Flo Fox really that bad, I thought it was quite cool?

Had also considered Rose/Rosie.

MerryMarigold · 06/12/2010 14:21

It's not so much the two F's that bother me, but the short 'o' of 'Florence' and 'Fox' and the 'ence' and 'ox' together I don't think sound good. Felicity Fox is a good name (and not because I prefer the name Felicity!).

Highlandgirl · 06/12/2010 14:21

Well it might never happen...but worth mentioning...??

Florence works really well with Harrison and George.

Elizabeth / Eliza
Frances
Louisa
Charlotte
Victoria
Sarah
Katherine / Kate
Alexandra

MerryMarigold · 06/12/2010 14:23

I don't think Meredith is more out there than Harrison.

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 06/12/2010 14:27

Not sure that having a Merry Fox is much better than a Mad one, to be honest Xmas Wink

I did think of Katrina but that gives you Kat Fox - a slightly confused animal but sounds ok as a name.

Lydia is nice...

5GoldenFimbos · 06/12/2010 14:31

Flo Fox reminded me of something, then it clicked - Filo fax. Sorry Xmas Blush

MsFox · 06/12/2010 14:32

Your right, Felicity does flow better.

We love Frances, it was DH's much loved Grandad's name (male version though obviously!), but DS2 has it as his middle name.

I really like Charlotte too, but I think it's perhaps a bit too plain.

Hadn't even considered Merry Fox! Kat Fox, another good one! Grin

MerryMarigold · 06/12/2010 14:34

Merry Fox is great!

MsFox · 06/12/2010 14:36

You would say that Grin

MsFox · 06/12/2010 14:36

What do we think of Rose/Rosie?

OP posts:
WildPansy · 06/12/2010 14:38

I'd avoid anything which might sound like an adjective tbh, including Rosie. I knew a Rosie with an animal surname once; people found it a bit odd. You might not care about that though Grin.

welshbyrd · 06/12/2010 14:38

Hello MsFox, im Mrs Sparrow, had same probs as you when we had DD, thankful she was a girl, else she could have been Jack Sparrow

MerryMarigold · 06/12/2010 14:46

I think I've twigged it: 3 syllables sounds fab with a one syllable surname. That's why Felicity and Meredith are working. Frances, sadly, is 2 again. Also Katrina, Lydia, Miriam (nn Miri)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/12/2010 14:52

Juliet Fox
Annabelle Fox
Miranda Fox
Eliza Fox

Def agree to avoid any adjective names. Name her Rosie Fox and everyone will get a mental image of a fox looking like this: Blush

Sorry but IMO Felicity Fox sounds like a fox character in a cartoon.

Bonsoir · 06/12/2010 14:53

I don't like alliteration in names, so Florence Fox is a no go for me.

As others have said, a long first name sounds elegant with a short surname (and Fox is an elegant surname too), so you have plenty of room for a lovely long first name.

Cassandra Fox
Livia Fox
Clementine Fox

MsFox · 06/12/2010 15:01

Hadn't considered a blushing fox!

None of those jumping out at me Elephants...except Miranda, but I think that's Sex and the City related!

Cassandra - Wasn't she in Only Fools and Horses?!
Livia - I've always loved Olivia, but feel it's become too popular.
Clementine is lovely, but is a close friends name.
