Well, we have concluded that a Turkish first name is a bit problematic indeed, so we have agreed on Malcolm - which reflects our Scottish background - but also keep Levent Özdel as middle names, because I like them so much.

Not sure though how to spell it in English

Malcolm Levent Özdel assuming that that is the correct way of spelling Özdel.

it seems a bit odd to take a first and surname from someone else if you don't really have any personal or cultural connection to the names. Would you consider

Malcolm Levent?

Otherwise it is a bit like a Japanese person saying we are going to call our baby

Hidetoshi Jonathon Cribbins

Özdel is not a name. It is somebody's surname (not yours). Why on earth would you burden your English baby boy with an incomprehensible word (to him and his peers) that he will never be able to spell?

For your information, this is what you are naming him:

Levent: Ottoman soldier
Öz: Genuine, core
Del: Drill, make a whole in something

Also, your boy will be about the same age as the original Levent Özdel. What if they meet? Even if they don't what does it mean for his self-esteem that his name is copied off some stranger?

This is a bad idea on so many levels.
