Aaaarggh.

We were definate on Kate for ages. Im only 14 weeks pregnant and if our last ds was a girl he would have been Kate so I was sure we wouldnt budge on it.

Have been looking at other names "just in case" and now I also adore Gabrielle or Gabriella. I think its stunning but am worried if I use it I'll regret not using Kate!!.

What do you think?

Like both, but I'd stick with Kate :)

meandjoe · 28/11/2010 14:38

Stick with Kate, it's classy, timeless, elegant yet down to earth. Gabrielle though pretty does sound a bit pretentious to me.

BarbieLovesKen · 28/11/2010 15:41

Oh interesting.. thank you so much. SmileReaffirmining initial decision really.

Am going to count the votes on here to help!!

I would wait until you are due tbh.
I think Gabriella is a very different type of name to kate.
Gabriella says very flighty, dark skinned, haired, girl a very frilly name. Whereas Kate is more solid and timeless.
Btw I do like both!

MelinaM · 28/11/2010 17:05

Prefer Gabriella, but absolutely love Kate! x

ShoppingDays · 28/11/2010 17:23

Gabriella is lovely. Not particularly keen on Kate.

ValiumSingleton · 28/11/2010 17:24

Gabriella. It has several nns.

I'm not crazy about Kate. It's ok. It just never goes away really. I thnk there will be a rush of them now for the next four or five years.

MaryBS · 28/11/2010 17:26

I would go with Gabrielle. Wouldn't pick Kate, for "royal wedding fever" reasons.

takethatlady · 28/11/2010 19:09

Gabriella.

Gabriella is not 'flighty' imo Grin - it's also a very classic, timeless name, and I think it's beautiful.

CharlieBoo · 28/11/2010 19:15

Love Gabriella, Kate seems very dull and boring in comparison and so many nice nn with Gabriella...

typsical · 28/11/2010 23:27

I really don't think Kate is dull and boring. That's what I like about it. Because it's very simple, it perhaps should be plain. But I find it beautiful and elegant... And all the Kates I know are gorgeous. Gabriella is pretty too, but in a more obvious way iykwim...

Ariesgirl · 29/11/2010 09:13

It's short for Bob.

rachel234 · 29/11/2010 10:28

Gabriella gets my vote. Feminine, elegant with lots of nickname options. Kate is a little boring imo.

jellybeans · 29/11/2010 10:50

Gabriella, but I like all 3.

Hedwig3 · 29/11/2010 11:19

Kate.

BarbieLovesKen · 29/11/2010 21:21

Thanks all (keep em coming pllleease)
So far:

I'd say Gabriella as it is elegant and less common than Kate.

FessaEst · 29/11/2010 22:13

Kate - it's beauty is its simplicity. Easy to spell, easy to pronounce, allows for few preconceptions/judgements - brilliant name.

Nothing against Gabrielle/a, ok name but very different to Kate. Runs the risk of being Gabby which is not so nice imho, and easily spelt/pronounced wrongly.

typsical · 29/11/2010 22:26

this thread is making me love Kate even more than I already did! But it's always been a fave of my sister's! Sad x

cant believe gabriella gets more votes than the wonderful gabrielle.

a second vote for gabrielle here!

said · 29/11/2010 22:55

3rd vote for Gabrielle.

Nospringflower · 30/11/2010 07:09

Gabrielle just pips it over Gabriella for me too. Kate in 3rd although I do like it too.

Jojay · 30/11/2010 07:16

Oooh no, Gabriella is MUCH nicer than Gabrielle.

Kate is great too though. Not sure which gets my vote, but def not Gabrielle.

Think about that nicknames you'd use with Gabriella, and this may sway you.

Gabby, Ella, erm......

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 30/11/2010 07:25

I love Gabriella! It's beautiful, but DH wouldn't let me use it Sad.

Kate is lovely too though, but I prefer Gabriella and Gabriella is better than Gabrielle.

tammy234 · 30/11/2010 08:52

Gabriella/Gabrielle is easily pronouncable in most languages as it is pronounced as it is written.

Kate, on the other hand, only really works in English and won't travel that well into other languages.
