GIRLS NAME HELP NEEDED!!!!

LadyStitt · 21/11/2010 11:46

Hi Ladies,

My other half and I had our boys name sorted before we even started TTC! Girls names however..... well its impossible to find one that we both like!!

OH would like DAPHNE as a middle name, he also likes the names:

Dakota, Penelope, Amelia, Scarlett, Felicity and Evelyn.

I have agreed to have Daphne as a middle name but i think his other suggesetions are too popular to use, ideally I don't want a popular girls name but i don't want anything to outlandish either!!!

Names i like are:

Greta, Wynter and Indigo.

Can you help us??!!! Any suggestions are greatly appriciated!

THANKS IN ADVANCE,

Surname is Stitt (26 weeks pregnant)

Don't like Wynter or Indigo and think Greta Stitt doesn't work, sound-wise, to my ears.

Evelyn is lovely.

Florence Daphne
Beatrice Daphne
Harriet Daphne
Catherine Daphne

fallingandlaughing · 21/11/2010 12:01

I agree Evelyn is nice and works with Stitt. Unfortunately Felicity Stitt and Scarlett Stitt are both a bit of a mouthful. Not too keen on Indigo or Wynter, are there any other names you like?

Would you consider Daphne as a first name?

clumsymumluckybaby · 21/11/2010 12:31

iona daphne stitt

ivy daphne stitt

beatrix daphne stitt

isadora daphne stitt

jellybeans · 21/11/2010 12:58

Dakota LIKE
Penelope DISLIKE
Amelia DISLIKE
Scarlett OK
Felicity DISLIKE
Evelyn OK

PaisleyLeaf · 21/11/2010 13:03

I don't really like Wynter or Indigo either.
And, except for Amelia, I don't think your OH's choices are that popular.

thumbwitch · 21/11/2010 13:07

You cannot possibly call a child Dakota Daphne - that would be just Plain Wrong.

Evelyn is my favourite of your DH's list but Eve and variations is very popular just now.

Really don't like Wynter and wouldn't be sure about Indigo for a girl.

Violet Daphne might work though.

LadyStitt · 21/11/2010 13:17

fallingandlaughing OH would love Daphne as a first name, i am not 100% opposed to the idea but i fear its a bit old fashioned and it may have some 'scooby doo' bullying attached to it!!

thumbwitch i do love the name Violet but oh not to keen Sad

clumsymumluckybaby & BelligerentGhoul Beatrix and Beatrice have come up a few times when we have been discussing girls names, we both like it.... but does Beatrix Daphne sound too old fashioned?? i love the nn trixi for a little girl too!

THANKS ALL, GREAT SUGGESTIONS SO FAR!!

MissMashMissMash · 21/11/2010 13:17

I like Penelope and don't think that it is actually that popular. Dakota isn't particularly popular either I don't think but am not keen on it and it reminds me of that actress. All other of your OH's suggestions are quite popular but I love Evelyn. Not keen on your suggestions Wynter and Indigo are too out there. Greta is more sensible but I don't like the sound. Love Daphne, could you have it as a first name? Other suggestions

Willow
Esther
Clementine
Lorelai
Jemima
Arabella

LadyStitt · 21/11/2010 13:24

MissMashMissMash OH would love Daphne as a first name but i keep saying no, its not that i don't like it but i worry a girl would get bullied for having an old fashioned name or a scooby doo name?

i like Willow alot, i also like Evelyn, but the nn are popular... evie, eve eva etc. i do love the nn's though, they all age so well!!

i like Arabella, its fun to say!! OH not keen.

ITS VERY HARD THIS NAMEING MALARKEY!

Daphne is an old fashioned name, and I'm sorry but I don't think your choices "sit" well with it. Of your DH's list, I think Evelyn and Amelia go well, but not the others.

Some others:

Edith, Annabel, Mabel, Violet, Miriam, Nicola, Louisa, Helena, Eloise, Sophia, Jennifer, Guinevere, Tabitha

thumbwitch · 21/11/2010 13:25

What about Maeve Daphne?
Or Viola instead of Violet?

LadyStitt · 21/11/2010 13:30

thumbwitch Maeve is nice, very pretty. Thanks!

i love the nn trixe,or beaGrin
ds would have had that name if he'd been a ddSmile
i dont think it sounds too old fashioned esp as old fashioned names are making a come back iyswim
willow is nice to,but id be worried if she wasnt a willowy girl-a stockier girl with that name might get bullied...

LadyStitt · 21/11/2010 17:15

BEATRIX IS WINNING AT THE MO!!! EVEN OH AGREES!!!

Dolly, Dulcie............

mathanxiety · 21/11/2010 19:48

Daphne Evelyn Stitt
Daphne Beatrice Stitt
Beatrice Evelyn Stitt
Beatrice Daphne Stitt
Beatrix Daphne Stitt
Beatrix Evelyn Stitt
-- are all very nice imo.

I don't think the name Daphne in and of itself would invite bullying at all. I don't know why bullying happens but individual names are nothing to do with the dynamic, imo.

Bea Stitt sounds strange to me. Can't put my finger on it.

Hedwig3 · 22/11/2010 10:40

Daphne is great, I love Penelope too.

PaisleyLeaf · 22/11/2010 12:49

I know more Beas than any of the other names (except maybe Amelia). I thought you didn't want popular?

BlueChampagne · 22/11/2010 12:54

Willow and Daphne would give you 2 plants - don't know if that's an issue.

Names that have come to mind
Bronwyn
Rosanna
Francesca
Corinna

It is hard this naming business - we were the other way round and had girl's names sorted early - had 2 boys!

FairyArmadillo · 22/11/2010 14:20

Beatrix Daphne is a lovely name.

LadyStitt · 22/11/2010 19:17

PaisleyLeaf OH NO!! is Beatrix really popular? i really dont want a popular name, i hated that i had a popular name!!! i shared my name with at least 3 other people in my small class at school.

i know a few Scarlett, Evelynn and Amelia's but no Beatrix's... Confused

Love love love the name Penelope, with Penny as a nn.

Pasiphae · 24/11/2010 10:40

I love Greta, but not sure with the surname.
I don't think Beatrix is that popular at all.
It's at number 460 for 2009.

Penelope is cool too.
Some more ideas:

Vivien, Astrid, Celeste, Cecily, Hebe, Thisbe, Ariadne, Juliet, Mabel?
