Hiya, basically i'm 24wks pg and we know we are expecting our first little girl (we already have a DS) and have just begun to discuss names but can't seem to agree on many Confused the one we both love atm is Dylan, but both feel that we should prob name her something a bit more feminine seeing as Dylan is largely used as a boys name in the uk and we don't want people to think we have 2 boys when we say the childrens names, trouble is we can't seem to find any feminine names we like! help!!!

Its a boys name - you may aswell call her Fred Smile

tessofderbyville · 18/11/2010 21:21

Actually I prefer Fred..sorry.

I'm with Everlong - enjoy choosing a wonderful girl's name that she'll be proud
of. Not Dylan which would cause confusion and possibly embarassment for her.

The trouble is i'm not really into all the girly girl names everyone suggests (Florence, Rose, Lily etc..) nothing at all wrong with them their just not for us. I did love Darcy but DP quickly pulled a face and dismissed it.

You might be able to use it as a middle name if you are really set upon it but another vote against here I'm afraid. The closest female equivalent I can think of is Dilys which I am guessing you won't like?! How about Delyth? That is lovely and I know one with NN Del.

GingerGlitterGoddess · 18/11/2010 21:34

Obv not with Dylan as a middle name BTW!

No

SausageMonster · 18/11/2010 21:54

Don't be silly OP

HelenaRose · 18/11/2010 22:35

I rather like it! :)

Beauregard · 18/11/2010 22:37

I know of a baby girl called Dylan

AphraBen · 19/11/2010 01:11

Oh you can call her anything you like, if you're keen on Dylan why not just do it.

I know someone who called their DD REAGAN which is fine if you're thinking about King Lear but not if you're thinking about Ronald.

nonanny · 19/11/2010 01:15

Please don't give her a boy name, like 'Gabriel' as she will be laughed at.
What about Dylana?

AphraBen · 19/11/2010 01:20

But Dylana is even more hilarious than any perceived "boy" name.

I have to admit I shift uneasily in my seat when a man is called Tracy or Hilary. Stupid of me, I know.

boiledegg1 · 19/11/2010 01:25

Dyla? Dylanne?

nonanny · 19/11/2010 01:26

Jordan is for both boys and girls nowadays. I also know a 'Jaye' (female). Dylana is meant as a joke but actually it could work; even has scope for different pronounciations: Di-lay-na, Diy-laa-na....

AphraBen · 19/11/2010 01:28

Is the "Jaye" transgender by any chance? I'm not being funny, its just that I've come across one or two, who are.

nonanny · 19/11/2010 01:47

No she is a student I know and unusually for the group has a toddler son and she is very feminine! Nice girl. But that could be grounds for avoiding the name.

Antoher thought on Dylan is its a bit of a 60s sounding/hippy name - nothing wrong with that..I did know a girl baby called 'Blue' and quite like that..sounds in the same vein as Dylan

thelibster · 19/11/2010 01:50

Unisex names...hmm how about Darryll?

nonanny · 19/11/2010 01:58

Liberty is nice; Eden could also work?

Lol @ Madamdeathstare one of your suggestions is my name! maybe that's why i like ubisex names?? nonanny i like Liberty but it reminds me of my mum saying 'your taking libertys young lady!' when i was younger Confused Darryll is really growing on me and i love Francesca maybe frankie for short? Saskia is also nice and not too flowery for me.
