Hi
I am due in 2 weeks and we still don't have a name for our DD2. Our DD1 is called Valentina. Our choices are:

Zara Alice
Vanessa Alice
Tamsin Alice

(Alice is a family name we want to use).

Which do you like best?

Are any of these terrible in your opinion?

Which one sounds best for a successful woman as well as a nice girls name?

We have been going around and around in circles.....it's so much harder the second time round deciding so will really value your opionion! Smile

I am not massively keen on any of them but probably Zara.

Are you convinced it has to be one of those three?

HelenaRose · 18/11/2010 20:35

I think Vanessa with Valentina might be a little too similar. I like Zara and Tamsin but would vote for Zara.

melovesushi · 18/11/2010 20:37

We also like the name Imogen but feel we can't use it as friends have a 2 yr old by that name!

they are all lovely names I think Vanessa is too similar to your dd's name. Why not just Alice.

MentalFloss · 18/11/2010 20:40

I quite like Tamsin and Zara

Vanessa always seems a bit middle-aged to me

Why not just Alice?

MelinaM · 18/11/2010 20:40

I agree Vanessa too similar, I don't think the other names flow with the middle name Alice, alice would be better as the first name with an alternative middle name Alice Elizabeth for exampleSmile

melovesushi · 18/11/2010 20:48

I'm not sure whether I love Alice enough as a name to have it as a first name....it's nice but I don't think I love it!

My DH likes Vanessa and Imogen, I like Zara and Imogen.....we both like Tamsin. Do you think Tamsin is a bit too plain next to Valentina?

Tamsin and Zara both lovely. Tamsin may get Tammy as a nn. I think it goes well with Valentina.

Esmee · 18/11/2010 21:26

I think Zara goes best with Valentina.

ILoveMyWomble · 18/11/2010 22:34

Like Zara best
but how about Tasmin instead of Tamsin?

strandedatseasonsgreetings · 18/11/2010 23:31

Shame you can't have Imogen - that's a name I really like.

Imogen Alice.

typsical · 18/11/2010 23:42

I would have Imogen anyway, if it is the one you both like the best!
Imogen Alice is gorgeous.
I also like Imogen Mabel!

I think Tamsin is lovely but also really like Zara, I have a little 2yo cousin Zara who is the most angelic lookin wild tomboy you could imagine Grin but yep i do think it is equally good a name for a successful woman :)

Violet5 · 19/11/2010 10:22

I have an Imogen Maria.
I like all your names but not keen on Tamsin when shortened to Tammy, or Tam and although i like Vanessa i'm not so keen on it shortened to Nessa.
I think Zara is lovely though Smile and the name of your DD1 is lovely too (was on my list)

bogie · 19/11/2010 10:24

I would pick zara out of the three

lovedimsum · 19/11/2010 16:34

Yes, I don't like the nn potential for Tamsin, although I don't like them either for Valentina!!

Do you think Zara or Imogen is nicer? Whats the etiquette regarding using the same name as a friend? We would use Imogen but friends we see (usually only about twice a year) have an Imogen, plus quite a good friend has her heart set on Imogen as a baby name (mind you she isn't even engaged yet and probably 3-4 yrs away from having a baby!).

Do you think you need to ask "permission" to use it (I am sure they wouldn't mind) or is it a no go? Thanks!

flopsy1974 · 19/11/2010 16:55

Not keen on any of the first name choices, but Alice is wonderful.

MelinaM · 19/11/2010 18:24

Imogen's lovely! Tamsin's not plain at all, I knew a Tamsin once, a very classy lady!

Hedwig3 · 19/11/2010 19:15

Zara as it has the most oomph.

None are at the same level as Valentina though - a tough one to follow.

minipie · 19/11/2010 19:23

Tamsin is my favourite of those three

but I don't think it goes so well with Valentina - Valentina I see as a very Latin name and Tamsin is very very English (as is Alice).

So for that reason I'd pick Zara or Imogen, both great names. (Vanessa a bit too similar to Valentina).

Alternatively, do you like Isobel?

Rhubarbgarden · 19/11/2010 19:43

Zara. I think it goes really well with Valentina.

BelligerentGhoul · 19/11/2010 19:47

I like Vanessa Alice best but not fond of both siblings having same initial, so would go with Tamsin, personally. Zara is a name that I dislike, sorry.

Alice is my favourite though.
