What do you think of Rita?
Dh will not have Margaret as a full name (which is a shame - i love it), but we both like Rita.
Can it be used as a stand alone name? Is it really too nicknamey? Surely will all these Alfies, Archies, Millies and the like running around, I could use Rita?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Heathcliffscathy · 15/11/2010 11:06

rita is a great name about to make a huge come back!

Hedwig3 · 15/11/2010 11:19

Fabulous name! Particularly lovely just as it is Smile

Pasiphae · 15/11/2010 12:18

Fab! Vintage, fun and vibrant. A bit 50s Hollywood glamour as well.

Rhubarbgarden · 15/11/2010 13:53

I like it.

SpawnChorus · 15/11/2010 13:57

Love Rita...would have been my choice for DC3 if he'd been a girl. Thought about using Verity as the long name. I'm not having any more DCs so you can have it [generous]. Wink

Sarsaparilllla · 15/11/2010 15:56

I'm sure I posted here earlier and it's not here anymore?! Confused

Anyway, I love the name Rita, it was my grandmother's name and it was her full name, I never really thought about it being a shortened version of anything tbh

rubbersoul · 15/11/2010 16:09

I love Rita, I just haven't been able to persuade my DH on it yet but it's definately on 'my' shortlist!

nickelpombear · 15/11/2010 16:10

What the hell's wrong with Margaret?
It's got so many nicknames and diminutives.

I do love Rita, too, but I would prefer Margaret, just for its versatility.

twirlymum · 15/11/2010 16:20

Sorry, I would just think of Mavis Riley simpering 'Ooooh, Riiiitaaa'
Also Rita Sue and Bob Too. Blush

Suncottage · 15/11/2010 16:24

I thought of Rita, Sue and Bob Too - the sort of film that makes you want to go and wash.

Sorry but I really, really do not like it - right up there with Freda and Edna

tummytickler · 15/11/2010 16:30

nickel - dh is very anti Thatcher, and would never call a child Margaret. It has tainted the name for him. SHame as I love it.
Suncottage - Freida was on our list for ds!

Pleasantly surprised by the positive responses! Is it going to be 'big' do you think, like Florence?

Horrid though marginally better than Margaret.

lilly13 · 15/11/2010 16:34

I think Rita is short version of Eastern European name Margarita. I love it!

I believe there is also an Indian and Romanian name Rita on its own. Prefer the full version, though.

ThatllDoPig · 15/11/2010 18:13

Just makes me think of a hard done by northern hard nut woman, chain smoking and filing her nails really manically. She also has a spiteful tongue needs her roots done. sorry.

NoelEdmondshair · 15/11/2010 18:31

Agree with Pig.

mathanxiety · 15/11/2010 20:38

I love it. I think it's stylish. Love Margaret too.

usualsuspect · 15/11/2010 20:39

Lovely Rita meter maid

MelinaM · 16/11/2010 00:29

Oohhh it's lovely! Very stylish indeed ..and there's the Rita Hayworth connection too! I also love Vita, similar sounding but also divine! x

Mumcentreplus · 16/11/2010 00:51
