Vanessa- WDYT?

Just getting some opinions on the name Vanessa- it's not very popular for babies but it's quite common for women in their 30's I've noticed. We are looking for a name that isn't too faddish. Our DD1 starts with a "V" too, do you think that will sound ok having two daughters beginning with V?
General thoughts and honest opinions please.

Personally, I would avoid giving them the same initial just because my Dad and I have the same initial and he was always opening my post when I lived at home. It used to drive me mad.

Not keen on the name either sorry.

She could be fat and end up with the nickname Nessie!

I love it. I think having two with the same starting letter is fine as long as the DD1 isn't Virginia or something that sounds like a matching pair. But Violet and Vanessa for instance, are different in style.

No, our last name does not begin with D! Not too worried about the Loch ness fat girl teasing, if kids are going to get teased they will get teased regardless of their name.

It's kind of a name I never considered or even thought I would consider but my husband suggested it and I think I kind of like it now as it's growing on me!

Agree with needsomesleep about giving kids the same initial. It causes problems with post as they get older.

There will be no such thing as post when our DCs are older.

There might not be any post but I still don't like giving the second child a name to match the first child, after all they are a person in their own right.

And I still don't like the name, sorry OP.

my good friend is vanessa nn van, i love this name, under used and pretty for girl and woman!!

I like it, and wouldn't worry about the same initial thing as I toyed with this idea but dh wouldn't succumb to the idea!
personally I think it sounds good.

Went to school with a Vanessa, nn Nessie, she was a bully and so dont like the name.

I like it !! My two dd's have the same first initial- does not bother me in the slightest !

I like it! A colleague has a little girl called Vanessa and I never really took notice on the name until then but it seems unusual for a child and is a pretty name.

I love it, it's never occurred to me. I really love Veronica but can't use with with our surname (think Eastenders) but Vanessa would do instead, it's lovely.

I think it's awful. It's the 'essa' I don't like. Valerie or Veronica or Vivien all much nicer.

Thanks guys for your input....it's now made it to our shortlist. Just have to wait and see what she looks like to choose which mane fits!! I think it's a nice name, classy, underused for the baby generation and will fit in nicely with my DD1's name.

Drove DH and SIL nuts to have same initials but that is only an issue til they leave home I guess!

Over here (Germany), letters are always addressed with full names.
