what other names do you like?

I'm stuck. Still.

Getting fed up with not having a clue.

Sorry persephone, but doesn't it sound very like "murder"?

Love Lachlan but ds2 has a friend called Lachlan. Not Home and awayish at all - wasn't that Locklan?

And, not Scottish, but I also love Toby. A lot. But dh's aunt once had a cat called Toby so that name was vetoed...

That's the trouble with pets' names - so many have 'people' names. I also like Archie, Ted, Paddy (though this is also the name of a nephew), Caspar all of which are names of current dogs within our family.

Toby keeps cropping up as a possible and gets dismissed though not sure why.

Not sure how I feel about Innes - I think I only know it as a surname.

Do you like Danger Mouse the cartoon? I mentioned earlier I have a Donald, and the DM cartoon character is called Donnie Murdo in the Gaelic version, so we quite often call DS Donnie Murdo!

So, both fab names!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 12/11/2010 12:00

I love Danger Mouse. Haven't seen it for years though.

I love Edwin, after Scots poet Edwin Morgan.

Some great name choices on here :)

Also my nephew (we're a Scottish family) is called Rory.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 13/11/2010 23:25

Thank you everyone - I really appreciate the suggestions.

I really like Niven - not sure DH would go for it - and I knew someone with a cat called Niven (that wouldn't put me off). Will run it by him to see what sort of response I get!

I've tried Sholto. Got the Hmm face.

DH has decided (after vetoing it previously, of course) that he likes Theo as well as Angus. I suppose it would be Theodore in full on BC. Not too sure about that, but it does shorten to Teddy/Ted too which is good as that was my Dad's nn in the army and I wanted to reference him in some way without actualy using his proper name (I've toyed with Rory and Rufus as they are the same derivation, but DH doesn't like Rufus and has a cousin called Rory).

Funny thing is, I once had a rabbit named Theodore. But then we also have a DD called Nancy and I was had a budgie by the same name - so, as you can see, there is a trend...

This will be my last DC - so I won't have to worry in future - but I should've made sure I gave my pets proper 'pet' names!

Sholto is fantastic.

JFly · 14/11/2010 10:13

I find all the "-us" names (Fergus, Angus, Seamus, Rufus, etc) are dog names to me. That's why DH likes them. Probably would rather we have another dog than DC. Hmm :)

What about Milo? OH and I love Murray, but again is it a dog's name? I like Theodore, too, but am partial as it's my Dad's name. DH doesn't really like it, though.

I'm due in 2 weeks and still only have 2 OK boy names on our list. Hoping it's a girl as have at least 5 to choose from there.

Good luck!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 14/11/2010 12:26

Had an ex-BF called Roderick Confused so definitely not on my list!

I know what you mena about the dog's names - so it surprises me how few of the DH likes - I think he'd rather have a labrador!!

OP posts:
AnnOnimous · 14/11/2010 14:17

What about Rhodri?

emmyloo2 · 14/11/2010 17:38

Rory, Fraser?

Hamish is one of my favourites. DH vetoed it though.

freerangeeggs · 14/11/2010 21:34

Oooh, Theo is very handsome. Theodore Hamish or Theodore Angus would be fantastic names.

I love Nancy too.

Be sure to let us know what you choose! :)

LisMcA · 14/11/2010 22:01

Have you thought of Struan? V scottish but not too popular

GibberingGinger · 14/11/2010 22:27

Ooh, you have very similar tastes to me I think. If it helps names I considered are

Douglas
Fraser
Campbell
Murray
Alexander (Sandy)
Ross
Rory
Robin

Though I think the last 3 are cause I couldn't have them. You always want what you can't have

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 15/11/2010 10:03

More great suggestions from you all - thanks

DH says he likes Dougal - I think of dogs and Father Dougal (and funnily enough I call DH Father Dougal sometimes as he gets te same expression on his face and goes far, far away...).

Not sure I'd actually use it though.
