Kitty, to go with surname Peterkin. Thoughts?

DP doesn't like it at all and says it reminds him of Hello Kitty (DD currently into!).

I'm wondering about the original, long versions of this name to get around this dilemma but Katherine, Kaitlin etc don't grab me, any ideas?

Hmm, it sounds a bit Beatrix Potter. I think a more formal version like Katherine would be better.

EauRouge · 07/11/2010 11:24

EXCept you don't like it Grin must read posts properly! I think you could use Kitty as a nn or pet name for any first name if you wanted to.

smother · 07/11/2010 11:26

I also thought Beatrix Potter and so it sounds a bit cutesy to my ears..... although would make a lovely nn for a little one.

mybedsmyfriend · 07/11/2010 11:29

I agree that a more formal name would be best and then you could always use Kitty as a nickname. When shes grown up it would be nice for her to have the option for a more mature name.
I goes nicely with your surname :)

fel1x · 07/11/2010 11:29

I love it, but if your DH hates it you cant really use it..

earlgreyismynectar · 07/11/2010 11:35

You're right Fel1x, bit naughty of me to persevere with it.... I agree Eau Rouge, I too would prefer a more formal choice for when they're older. It's Peterkin that sounds Beatrix Potter!! Bunnykins etc, I'm always getting that. Prob need to stay away from too cutesy for that reason... Thanks for your thoughts!

Nice thought Eau Rouge to just use as a pet name anyway, could stick!

Katerina ??

EauRouge · 07/11/2010 11:49

Ooh, good one. How about Katya, Christina, Catriona, any of those any good?

onimolap · 07/11/2010 11:52

If you give her the initials KP, will people think she's nuts?

That aside: Katharine, Catherine, Caitlin, Katja, Ekaterina, Christine, Christobel

PheasantPlucker · 07/11/2010 11:58

My SIL is Katharine, always known as Kitty

Love the name Kitty and suggested it to DH, he thought it should be a nickname and I think I agree. He has an aunt named this and it is short for Kathleen ( they're Irish and I think Kitty was a fairly common for Kathleens in previous generations).

earlgreyismynectar · 07/11/2010 17:21

I like Katya / Katja and Katarina but DP says no :( thanks for other suggestions too! You have great taste Imarriedafrog! I really love it. Back to the drawing board... Don't actually even KNOW if it's a girl Grin but just working on the definitive list... Love Kit for a boy too but it's the usual short form for Christopher & my nephew has that name & not sure about Christian..
