Middle name for Esther

Have decided on Esther if our baby is a girl (having finally overcome my partner's 'Rantzen' reservations). He wants Grace for a middle name, which is a family name and which we had kind of agreed on. I am just concerned that Grace is currently default middle name of choice and also that Esther Grace maybe sounds a bit austere/puritanical? So far options are:

Esther Grace
Esther Hannah (my choice)
Esther Veronica (His choice)

Veronica and Hannah also family names. Personally not keen on Veronica as it sounds like verruca. Would appreciate opinions as to which is best. Surname is on e syllable and ends with an 's' sound.

Esther Grace has a lot of S sounds.

I have to say I like Esther Veronica because the E sounds are alike and it seems to flow better than Esther Hannah -- there's a bit of a stop between the R of Esther and the H of Hannah.

Esther elanor?

Rhubarbgarden · 01/11/2010 18:57

I think if you've overcome his reservations for the first name, he should get his way on the middle name.

Good point Rhubarbgarden - although his choice for a girl's name was Aeon, which had to be nipped in the bud!

how are you pronouncing Aeon as that could work. Esther Aeon grace.

I think it is lovely to use middle names which have family connections. We used grandparents' and great-grandparents' names for sentimental reasons. Why not use both?

Esther Veronica Hannah
Esther Hannah Veronica

either are good!

I like Esther Hannah but maybe you can allow him his choice if he has allowed you yours on the first name. I love the name Esther by the way!

ellesabe · 02/11/2010 09:53

The one that immediately popped into my head was Esther May.

theQuibbler · 02/11/2010 12:46

My mother's name is Esther. Her middle name is Orinthia. Bit of a mouthful if you ask me!

christabell · 02/11/2010 12:53

Thanks all, some nice suggestions - Esther Rose is lovely. We do want to stick with family names though, thinking maybe Veronica does flow best. Aeon is pronounced as in the word - don't think is actually a name, sounds like a character in the Matrix, although my dp views this as a positive attribute!
