Do you like the name Seraphina for a girl? Nickname would be Fina.

Any similar names you prefer?

I like it.
I have a friend who is married to an Italian man and has a son called Seraphino, but I actually prefer the female version.

alexisfaith · 30/10/2010 20:20

Never heard the male version before, thanks Ruth. My DH is half italian and Catholic, so St Serafina is the inspiration.

Fina makes me think oil company.

Sequins · 30/10/2010 20:44

I love this.

poppydaisy · 30/10/2010 21:54

Lovely. I wouldn't shorten it, I think Seraphina rolls off the tongue easily.

AbiAbi · 30/10/2010 22:20

Gorgeous, this is my chosen name if we ever have another daughter. My NN of choice would be Seffi.

MuffinMouse · 30/10/2010 22:52

I love it. My daughter really wants us to name DC3 this. But I suspect that others will shorten it to Sera whether I like it or not. It's just a but too long for everyday. I have a DD with a four syllable name and have managed to resist others shortening (just) but Seraphina is a bit trickier to say. Just a thought..

SaorAlba · 30/10/2010 22:55

I love it, Serafina would be my favourite spelling. It's the name of a witch queen in Philip Pullman's Northern Lights trilogy.

purlcity · 30/10/2010 22:57

Love it. We nearly called DD2 Serafina but she looked more of a Teodora but it is still top of the list if we have another DD!

MelinaM · 30/10/2010 23:31

Love it, unusual- but not too much so! ..if that makes sense! x

eaglewings · 30/10/2010 23:37

one of my dd's is Seraphina, never been shortened yet, but would chose Phin of Nina. :)

MissHavishamsDress · 31/10/2010 06:36

I like it very much but prefer Seraphine.

AlpinePony · 31/10/2010 07:29

Seraphina is beautiful - Fina makes me want to pull out teeth.

redshoes · 31/10/2010 08:11

beautiful - could shorten to fee?

bamboobutton · 31/10/2010 08:15

we were going to call dd Seraphine, nn Rafi.

she didn't look like a Seraphine when she was born so she is Esme instead.

Raaarrrggghhhfi · 31/10/2010 09:38

We've got a Serafina, we call her Fina or Fi, her mates call her Sera np Seri. You do get misspellings and mispronunciations but we love it and so does she.

Bumperlicious · 31/10/2010 09:58

Lovely! Wish dh had let me use this, though dd2 doesn't look like a seraphina.

effymeffy · 04/11/2010 23:58

Love it, though there are a couple round here seems to be getting popular

TheFarSide · 05/11/2010 00:11

Seraphim and cherubim.

Was that a hymn?

Pasiphae · 05/11/2010 11:44

Pretty, but prefers Seraphine, less "fussy".
I nearly had a Seraphine too, but it was too theme-ish with our oldest DD.
She has it as a middle name instead.

lilly13 · 10/11/2010 13:16

I like Seraphima (Fima) better. It is an ancient slavic name and is very rare these days.

QueeferSutherBANG · 10/11/2010 23:01

Was on my shortlist.
Love it.
