My OH really likes Summer or Skye as a middle name. I'm not sure! We like Iris or Isla as first name. What do you think?

Isla Skye sounds like a "where she was conceived" name. Other combinations would work, though.

Sinkingfeeling · 29/10/2010 22:17

I quite like both Summer and Skye as middle names - not sure why, but I think you can be a bit 'edgier' with middle names than first names. Not sure that Isla Skye is such a good combination though. One of my daughters went to nursery with a Summer, a Skye and a Storm ...

TheBigZing · 29/10/2010 22:17

I like Skye.

SpringHeeledJack · 29/10/2010 22:19

Isla Skye Grin

my ds (13) accidentally confessed that, if he were a girl, he would love to be called Skye

bigchris · 29/10/2010 22:20

very nice

tummytickler · 29/10/2010 22:22

Neither - they are both horrible.
Defintely not Isla Skye though.

Seabrookscheeseandonion · 29/10/2010 22:24

Thanks for your comments, especially 'where she was conceived' we hadn't thought of that. Any ideas on any other combinations with skye or summer as the middle name?

I have a Skye so think it's beautiful! I would only use Summer if it was going to be a summer birth. Our other choice was Iona and that would also work as a first name for Skye, so Iona Skye (although then you have 2 Scottish islands as first and middle name which might sound odd if you have no Scottish connection!).

coldcomfortHeart · 30/10/2010 13:10

Prefer Summer I think, and definitely don't like Isla, I'm sorry but I know about 5 little Islas, it's really popular around here at the moment...

emptyshell · 30/10/2010 18:26

I taught a Sommer once (pronounced the same as Summer).

bendelicious · 30/10/2010 20:24

I love both Isla and summer Smile

Sequins · 30/10/2010 20:47

Iris Skye sounds like "I risk eye". Isla Skye problem mentioned above. Iris Summer is inoffensive. Isla Summer sounds like a holiday brochure. I am not that convinced about a second name starting with S being that great after Isla or Iris though, I think you need a hard consonant to start the second name off distinctively.

randomimposter · 30/10/2010 21:32

Love Iris - Isla a bit meh to me.

Prefer Summer to Skye, but not wild on either.

Seabrookscheeseandonion · 31/10/2010 09:47

Sequins, thanks for your comments, have you got any ideas for middle names to go with Iris?

OP posts:
Sequins · 01/11/2010 05:54

Iris Rose, Iris Lily, Iris Poppy, Iris Violet (but not if your surname starts with F), Iris Primrose, Iris Katherine (not initials IC - "I See"), Iris Jane, Iris Matilda, Iris Grace,v Iris Lucy, Iris Joy - it is a bit tricky though isn't it!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 01/11/2010 06:10

Both Neighbour's names - think I would seer clear - these sound like the 21st century Kylie. Might live to regret them later....

Sarsaparilllla · 01/11/2010 12:13

Not keen, think they they both sound a bit chavvy somehow, maybe it's the neighbours connectiong like amothersplaceisinthewrong says

Galena · 01/11/2010 21:13

:( I'm not chavvy!
