I love the name Lydia, but when I suggested it to my sister, she simply said "Lydia Chlamydia" and it's put me off quite a bit!

It chlamydia the first thing that springs to mind when you hear the name?

Should I even put it on my shortlist?

No it's not and yes you should.

BelligerentGhoul · 28/10/2010 17:32

Your sister is being a bit bonkers tbh!

It's certianly not a connection that children in the playground would make and Lydia is a lovely name.

MaMoTTaT · 28/10/2010 17:32

No it's not the first thing that springs to my mind.

I know a lovely Lydia, she's YR7 age and absolutely fab

Evenstar · 28/10/2010 17:33

Lid o'yer dustbin was what the one at our school had to put up with, I wouldn't have made the connection your sister did. I still think it is a nice name.

MaMoTTaT · 28/10/2010 17:33

I should add that Lydia is sandwiched in-between Sam and Ella which has always made me Grin since I saw the threads on MN about the combination

Balletpink · 28/10/2010 17:39

My 4yo DD is called Lydia and I have never heard anyone suggest Lydia Chlamydia! (Maybe they all do it behind my back? Hmm) I think it's a lovely name (well, I am biased) but I wouldn't disregard it because it rhymes with Chlamydia...

stleger · 28/10/2010 17:43

My dd2 is almost 14 and nobody has ever said this to her. (She'd have told me, she never shuts up). Use it!

greedyguts · 28/10/2010 17:54

Excellent. Thank you ladies! I shall indeed tell my sister that she is bonkers and that the only people who will make this connection are those who have had it - heh! (she hasn't btw).

It is on the list ( along with Sylvia, Ailsa and Talia).

Don't be silly :) It's a lovely name and is top of my list should I ever need a list again.

TotorosOcarina · 28/10/2010 18:05

Lydia teapot too.

NoahAndTheWhale · 28/10/2010 18:10

Would never think of Chlamydia in connection with Lydia.

There was a Candida in my year at school though. Did wonder about the wisdom of her parents calling her that tbh

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 28/10/2010 18:11

Lydia = Chlamydia
Tilly = Willy
Banjo = Fanjo
Miles = Piles

All equally true. Your sister is mad.

valiumskeleton · 28/10/2010 18:11

I think it's lovely adn I considered it as well. It doesn't make me think of Chlamydia but I've seen enough people mention it.. it mgiht make me hesitate now.Claudia is more like it imo. That's a lovely name too btw.

yummymummie1 · 28/10/2010 18:11

I have a friend called Lydia and yes i'm afraid all through school nearly everyone called her Chlamydia.

valiumskeleton · 28/10/2010 18:11

Yes, Candida is bonkers. There are a few out there. MADNESS

washngo · 28/10/2010 18:41

My name is Lydia and I never had anyone call me that! I wouldn't worry-you could find some embarrassng nickname or other for pretty much any name!

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 28/10/2010 18:48

well we did once create a sexual health site for teens where the teenagers on it were called Clem and Lydia.
Despite that, I like the name. A friend has a DD called Lydia, and no, I certainly don't think that every timne I see her.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 28/10/2010 18:48

Candida on the other hand...

Needaname · 28/10/2010 19:08

Sorry but I love the name but chlamydia is the reason it's not our no.1 choice. I googled it and there's a song called Lydia Chlamydia and sexual health poetry competition entries called that! When I was at school (early 90's) there wasn't the awareness that there is now so it's a worry for me.

dolcegusto · 28/10/2010 19:34

My dd is called Lydia and noones ever said anything about chlamydia.

We did think about that when we agreed on the name but kids will always find a reason to tease another child if they really want too.
