Does anyone like this name? Does is sound American? HOw popular it is now? My family does not like it at all because of the short form Sam and Samantha Fox. Please comment. THanks.

I like it. I know lots of adult female British Sams, no little ones. Never realised before that it's supposed to be an American import.

I'm a Samantha. My family all call me Samantha but everyone else calls me sam. I refer to myself as sam.

I love it Smile

I think of Samantha Cameron and Bewitched.

I don't hate it - I went to school with lots and know lots. I certainly don't know an under 30.

For me, it's perhaps a bit soon for a revivial.

I'm a Samantha, and I've never liked it , to the point of being reluctant to say my name when asked... Don't know why, just always thought it's a bit 80s naff.. my mum is American, hence the naming and I work for an American company - my US colleagues absolutely love it and many have named their kids it in recent years....

It's a totally awesome name. Grin Grin

I think it was still in the top 30 or so until about ten years ago.

The only thing is that after SATC and I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, everyone assumes you're a bit of a goer. (usually correctly)

serenity · 08/11/2010 23:41

It's my name, I don't dislike the name exactly but I don't like it for me. I never use it, everyone calls me Sam (or else... Grin)

I've never thought of it as being American I have to say, maybe a bit dated? I don't know any one young with it, but there were 4 of us in my school year (only 2 classes!)

If anyone wants to assume I'm 'a bit of a goer', then I'll quite correctly assume they want my drink over their head Grin

I think it's lovely. Feels more British than American to me.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 09/11/2010 13:08

Maybe it's just me then serenity Grin

Rockbird · 09/11/2010 13:09

I love it but cannot use it as with our surname it's the name of an Eastenders character Angry

SandyChick · 09/11/2010 14:30

I'm under 30. There was another Samantha in my year at school. I know a little girl called Samantha.
