No, It's just a French name. Actualy, Apoline is very popular in France.
Eponine is a name from les Miserables (who is one of the best french book).
But for Apoline, I really don't know what English people can think about this name.

I love Eponine because of Les Mis (On My Own is one of my favourite ever songs!) You could maybe go for Nina as a nn rather than Ep, which isn't very nice.

Apoline makes me think of Appollonia in Purple Rain (old git with bad musical taste emoticon)

As others have said, Eponine sounds like something the GP would prescribe for eczema.

Wasn't there an Appollonia (or similar) in the Godfather part 3? (or another Mario Puzo book).

To be honest, I think one of those names by themselves wouldn't have evoked the same reaction, but the two together seem quite, um, special.

Think Apolline looks better with the double ll. What about Amandine?
