Other suggestions?

Hi there!

I'm in the first trimester and had an early mc/cp last cycle so trying to take my mind off bad things and think about fun stuff.

So far we have very few names we actually like. We are using Edith and Clive as middle names (they are family names) and so far have:

Tess Edith
Isobel Edith (I do like this but when you add up all the Isobel/Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella's etc it might just be too popular)

And for a boy:

Charles (Charlie) Clive
Sidney Clive (Sidney being another family name)
Arthur Clive

Given our choices so far does anyone have any suggestions for other names we might consider?

Hope all goes well for you. . What about Jasper Clive or Anna or Clara Edith?

Isobel is great with Edith. I think the poularity might depend on where you are. We are in West Yorkshire, I have 2 DD's and I don't know any Isobels or variations.

As an alternative - what about Imogen?

Also, going with your theme, what about Albert for a boy?

Thanks! All names I hadn't considered ... except Imogen, which I really like, except a good friend of mine is about 8 weeks away from having her little girl called Imogen, so that rules that out :)

DH loves Tess and it's really growing on me. But Thomas Hardy's Tess isn't exactly a great precedent!

Tess is a pretty name and would be unusual now.

Only another BUT.. apart from Hardy's Tess - our nursery class were saying Ten Ton Tess to their (very large) nursery assistant. I was and an adult ?parent must have said it first but poor girl! Now how to stop them saying it?

I love Edith anyway.

All the Isabel variants are very common here in the SW, but for the 4-6 age.
New baby girls here are called Eve/Evie/Ellie/Lily/Lola/Lila by law. So an Isabel might still be the only one in a class.

Isobel Edith is my favourite. I dont know any Isobel's, under 25 years of age.

Charlie Clive is also a great choice.

I know that Clive is a weird name and I wouldn't ordinarily choose it but it's DH's dad and they are very close but sort of shy/reserved with eachother - they rarely wear their hearts on their sleeves. So DH wants to have his dad's name 'cos he thinks his dad is brilliant and it's a nice oblique way of telling him so. Makes me want to cry - nice dads always make me cry, and my DH is going to be one too :) - so I'm 100% happy to do it.

Ten Ton Tess! That is horrible. Have just typed it into google and there was a bomb called Ten Ton Tess, as well as lots of people and a song. My policy on that sort of thing is basically to ignore it though - it's not like Tess is a name that draws attention to itself and nobody calls Tess Daly any horrid names! I wouldn't want to give my child a name they might get picked on for, but basically any name fits that criteria if you think about it too long.

People seem to be liking Isobel ... it does go well with Edith :)

Alice Edith?

I don't think names that end in 'a' work in front of Edith. You need a consonant sound to make it flow.

Yeah I agree about names ending in 'a'. That's one of the reasons we wouldn't go for Tessa (also I don't like it as much).

Alice is nice - DH really likes it, I'm not so keen.

If we're on the subject of silly things people yell out about names I do occasionally think 'Alice? Alice? Who the f* is Alice?'

As I said before, I am trying to ignore stuff like that though!

this is the problem, i think its quite hard to ignore the stuff people say about a name because the problem is kids are cruel and they will get said at the playground or other parents will think them! my mums very good at things like this i suggest a name and she goes through it with military precision which is very annoying but sadly what she comes up with is very true!

I really wouldn't worry too much about it. If you like a name, go for it. DD1's name does not have any unfortunate songs associate with it, but her name ryhmes with fire. So, she came home from school the other day asking why the other kids were singing that her bum was on fire! I don't think it has done her any lasting damage [hwink]. Kids will find silly songs to sing about eachother whether they already exist or not.

nigglewiggle I totally agree. Kids will say stupid stuff no matter what the name is. It's not like I'm choosing names that are so crazy or out there that the chances of that happening are significantly higher, so I won't worry about it and will cross that bridge if I ever come to it!
