What do you think of Augusta as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder

I think it's a horrible name to consider changing to, and after 7 months!

Hmm
brittan76 · 17/10/2010 23:39

I think you should swap them around and name her Arabella Felicity Matilda.

Sorry to hear you're unhappy 6 months on. I would definitely change it if you hate the name!

clemetteattlee · 17/10/2010 23:46

Augusta is an ugly name. I would stick with what you have but just call her Matilda.

clearsaint · 17/10/2010 23:48

I think you should swap them too, at 7 months old it's too late to add a new name imo.

Matilda would work best with your dc names.

brittan76 · 17/10/2010 23:49

I do prefer Augusta to Felicity which I find horsey

smilingserenely · 18/10/2010 10:37

unfortunately dh vetoed matilda my personal favourite.

I love Matilda (Maude, Milly, Tilly, Tilda, Mattie)

I love Octavia.

Can't you MAKE him see sense???

gillyboot · 18/10/2010 11:09

If Matilda is a middle name then it can't be vetoed, just use it. You must be calling her something by 7 months, this is bonkers.

Leighton, Blake, Bethany with Augusta are miles apart anyway. It doesn't go with dc at all!

Tortington · 18/10/2010 11:10

i think this................SUPPOSING you have an ugly kid?

shit happens.

ugly kid....called augusta

smilingserenely · 18/10/2010 11:11

avocadoes unfortunately not . the thing that really annoys is that since he decided he liked the name felicity last december ,he has refused to discuss any other name and just stonewalls when i try to discuss any. this despite the fact that last january 10 weeks before she was born i made it quite clear i disliked the way the name felicity sounded.

love Augusta

MrsVincentPrice · 18/10/2010 14:04

Reminds me of Bertie Wooster's terrifying aunt, also Lady Bracknell in Importance of Being Earnest is Augusta, and Byron's sister who he had an affair with.
So I'd vote no.
OTOH Felicity is a horrible name, so please do change it.

NadiaWadia · 18/10/2010 14:08

Awful, sorry.

smilingserenely · 18/10/2010 14:27

mrsprice it's nice to know i'm not alone in disliking the name felicity but dh insists these are the only 2 girls names in the entire universe he likes !!
i don't want to railroad him into a name he didlikes. however,i'm seriously thinking of telling him if he won't even come up with alternatives to discuss then i will call her my preferred option.as i'm really not happy calling her a name that makes me cringe.
i had shortlist of about 12 names which i would have compromised on .he disliked them all of once he'd found his preffered option.

Terrible.

deadfilly · 18/10/2010 17:21

It doesn't go with Leighton or Blake, but neither does Felicity.

Use one of the middle names.

mathanxiety · 18/10/2010 18:32

Anything is better than Felicity.

But Augusta ?? (It's Bertie's aunt for me too; a formidable kind of person springs to mind, and not in a good way)

Would you consider Aurelia? Matilda is lovely, even Arabella...

muttimalzwei · 18/10/2010 22:43

Matilda, job done.

Littlefish · 18/10/2010 22:51

It's horrible, sorry. It sounds like a fat girl's name (and I say that as a fat girl).

discobeaver · 19/10/2010 19:45

It does sound like a fat name, sorry. Also Gussie/Gusset.

I like Octavia and how many people actually HAVE 8 kids so are justified using it? It makes me think of the story Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling, my favourite one.

Bloody cars ruin lots of good names - I like Allegra but can't use it because of the Austin Allegro, even though that's an ancient car now.
