Alexander or Jack?

I like both, but not keen on shortening to Alex, and prefer Jack to Alex.

Do you think Jack is just too popular?

Jack is very very popular, I like Alexander

LetThereBeRock · 17/10/2010 19:50

I much prefer Alexander. Both are popular, but I know many Jacks, and just a few Alexanders.

thisisyesterday · 17/10/2010 19:54

alexander

KenDoddsDadsZombieDogsNotDead · 17/10/2010 20:01

Alexander

phipps · 17/10/2010 20:02

I would go for Jack as someone will shorten Alexander and you can't really stop them.

luciemule · 17/10/2010 20:04

You could always shorten Alexander to Xander or Sandy

Alexander is lovely.

StephanieSays · 17/10/2010 20:40

Alexander

SlaughteredSheep · 17/10/2010 20:43

I like Xander as a shortening for Alexander but I prefer Jack.

OkieCokie · 17/10/2010 20:44

Although everyone says Jack is popular I only know 1 Jack - I know for more Oscars and I know 2 Alexanders! I think a lot of poeple avoid Jack now thinking it is popular. I really like Jack and I think if you like it go for it whether it is popular or not.

kalo12 · 17/10/2010 20:50

jackson
alexander could be shortened to sandy

facebook · 17/10/2010 20:51

Jack is definitely my favourite although Alexander is a beautiful name too. I also love Oliver but people tend to steer clear of jack and oliver because it's too popular. I have to agree with OkieColie on this and say if u like it then go for it. No point in going for something unusual and obscure if u hate it or just 'don't mind' it, if u love it- use it!

Theincrediblesulk1 · 17/10/2010 20:53

Alexander, i have one :) ds2 Alexander Or Xander as he calls himself.

Whelk · 17/10/2010 20:53

Both popular. But nowt wrong in my opinion with popular.
Prefer Alexander,

saltcod · 17/10/2010 21:00

Prefer Jack. Every other boy around here is called either Alex or Harry, but only know of 1 Jack, despite it being the "number 1" name every year!

muttimalzwei · 17/10/2010 21:06

I think Jack is not as popular as it was, seriously.Mu son is Alex and there are lots of them now!! (he's 18months)I haven't met a baby Jack yet What about Jake?

Theincrediblesulk1 · 17/10/2010 21:21

We have never met another Alexander, about 2 Alex's but not Alexanders.

sleepyhorse · 17/10/2010 22:15

I prefer Jack

vess · 17/10/2010 22:56

Prefer Alexander, although we probably know more Alexanders than Jacks.

BeedeBee · 18/10/2010 11:30

Alexander, definitely. More flexibility when he's older e.g. Al, Alex etc. Smile

Journey · 18/10/2010 11:40

I prefer Jack. Alexander is okay but hate Alex and Al.

Spookberries · 18/10/2010 13:30

Both popular.

I much prefer Jack, I love the sound of it and I work with under-5's and only know 2 Jack's, I can off the top of my head think of 5 Alexanders (all of whom, by the way, do get called Alex).

LouMacca · 18/10/2010 13:45

I really like both names.

I would go for Alexander and use Alex. If you don't like Alex then go for Jack.

deliakate · 18/10/2010 13:46

I think it depends a lot on your surname, but in general, I prefer Alexander.
