Alexander or Jack?

I like both, but not keen on shortening to Alex, and prefer Jack to Alex.

Do you think Jack is just too popular?

I would go for Jack as someone will shorten Alexander and you can't really stop them.

You could always shorten Alexander to Xander or Sandy

I like Xander as a shortening for Alexander but I prefer Jack.

Although everyone says Jack is popular I only know 1 Jack - I know for more Oscars and I know 2 Alexanders! I think a lot of poeple avoid Jack now thinking it is popular. I really like Jack and I think if you like it go for it whether it is popular or not.

Jack is definitely my favourite although Alexander is a beautiful name too. I also love Oliver but people tend to steer clear of jack and oliver because it's too popular. I have to agree with OkieColie on this and say if u like it then go for it. No point in going for something unusual and obscure if u hate it or just 'don't mind' it, if u love it- use it!

Prefer Jack. Every other boy around here is called either Alex or Harry, but only know of 1 Jack, despite it being the "number 1" name every year!

I think Jack is not as popular as it was, seriously.Mu son is Alex and there are lots of them now!! (he's 18months)I haven't met a baby Jack yet What about Jake?

We have never met another Alexander, about 2 Alex's but not Alexanders.

I much prefer Jack, I love the sound of it and I work with under-5's and only know 2 Jack's, I can off the top of my head think of 5 Alexanders (all of whom, by the way, do get called Alex).

I really like both names.

I would go for Alexander and use Alex. If you don't like Alex then go for Jack.

I think it depends a lot on your surname, but in general, I prefer Alexander.
