Baby Fraser

I'm looking for honest opinions please, not on the name itself, I like it no one will change my mind on that, but it's my maiden name.

I'm in Scotland and I've heard a few babies named their mothers surname. And never thought much about it. So far no one has said it's weird, but what do you guys think. I worry that it will be confusing because baby will have a Grandma and Granda Fraser and an aunt and uncle with his first name as a surname.

I might just be overthinking this :)

Just call him Fraser.

Baby Fraser is a bit much.

so why not grandma first name and grandad first name instead of their surnames?

Fraser is a cool name, but then I am biased :).

We did the Nanny first name and Grandad first name thing and it works for us.

My mum is pushing for Grandma FirstName as grandma fraser is my grandma who is sadly no longer with us. Dad wants the baby to call him Hercules for reasons unbeknown to me!

I just wondered if a friend of yours called their baby their maiden name would you think that was weird?

I think Fraser is lovely but I do see your point about calling your child your maiden name. I wouldn't do it but it's personal choice.

Fraser is a great name! If you were going to call him something only ever used as a surname then I think you would get a few but Fraser is a lovely first name if you and Dh both love it best of luck :)

I think it is a lovely name and it has additional special meaning for you. Go for it

my ds has my maiden name as his middle, wouldn't have given it as a christian name though

Nope not weird at all ...I know a couple of people who have done this ...and I would have done it too except that my maiden name is too popular as a first name

My ds1 is Frazer. But Fraser is good too

Lovely name and at the top of my shortlist for my bump - and with an added special meaning for you it makes perfect sense. Frazer or Fraser both good.

Don't think of Fraser as a surname. We know a few and it is a lovely name.

One of them we even know as Baby Fraser...... I suppose one day we will have to drop this sobriquet as he is proving to be quite a stocky wee chap.

this used to be very common practice in scotland and is making its way over the atlantic its becoming more common to do in the U.S I think its wonderful. and a great name and keeps the family history from both sides alive as your child grows.

Have you kept your maiden name or changed your surname?

If you've kept your name it might be a little bit strange to have a child with your surname as his first name. If you've changed your name I don't see the problem.

On the grandparents thing - I never had "Grandma X and Grandma Y". Instead I had "Granny and Grandad" and "Grandma and Grandpa". Could be a solution for you if you want to avoid "Grandma Fraser"?

Thanks folks. I was pretty set on it and just had a bit of a wobble! I'll probably have a few more, I'm only 15 weeks :o

I've taken DH's name and we no longer live in my home town so most of my friends here know me as LisMcA probably don't even know my maiden name!!

Yes, I know of a Lennon and his mum's maiden name is also Lennon. Has not caused any problems afaik.
