Last minute doubts about name

Hi, so DP and I have had our name picked for months - almost as soon as we knew it would be a girl. We both fell in love with it but suddenly now, at 39 weeks, I'm having complete cold feet about it and don't know if it's what I want. I've been trying to talk to the bump but calling her by the name seems really strange and awkward. Any suggestions as to how to get over this? It was the only name DP and I could agree on so I can't see how we're going to think up a new one. Help!

Can you wait until baby is out, tell people you've not got a name and just try the name out a few times at home...? It's probably just your nerves for the birth playing havoc with your mind...

Say it out loud with your surname five times, in different voices, see if you like it then!!!

A name needs to suit a grown up, rather than bump or baby.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I'm just freaking out! The name is Elodie which I thought was so pretty abd unusual without being too different, but I'm just not sure if it will suit her. I know that sounds crazy considering she's not even born yet! I blame the hormones...

Elodie is a lovely name. See what you think when she's born and you can always take a day or two to decide. I am having similarly indecisive thoughts over the 2 or 3 names DH and I can agree on ... we'll just have to wait until they come out!

If you find it doesn't sound quite right for a bump or baby (as can be the case with a longer name) then call her a short version (Ellie is the obvious one) - or a completely different nickname - and revert to the longer name once she's older.

Don't panic. Don't think you have to name her this just because you've had it in mind for a long time (although it is a lovely name). I had similar worries about the only name we had for DS1, but we did use it and I'm very glad, but I was still wobbling about it after we'd told people, because I rushed it a bit.

See what she looks like for a few hours/days so you feel sure.

Thanks all - you have helped calm an irrational hormonal woman! Will take your advice and see how it goes. I like the nickname idea - I have a feeling we'll be referring to her as her bump name for a while anyway as it's what she's been called for the past 9 months! Thanks again :)
