DC (sex unknown) is due in ten days...we are sorted for a boy's name (Edward) but undecided about a girl name. So quick straw poll please - any opinions on the following? The middle name will be Lucy after my grandma and the surname begins with P.

Alice
Abigail (nn Abby)
Emilia (nn Mia or Milly)

Thanks!

Hi

I love Mia and Milly so personally I would go for Emilia.

cazzybabs · 12/10/2010 20:02

alice

HotchpotchHoney · 12/10/2010 20:03

Abigail or Emilia goes better with Lucy.
I'm not keen on the name Alice though so i maybe biased. Why not Lucy as first name though?

dollius · 12/10/2010 20:03

Not Abigail

escorchio · 12/10/2010 20:03

Emilia

5andahead · 12/10/2010 20:03

Alice

Ishouldhavechosenagoldfish · 12/10/2010 20:04

Abigail. Just because Emilia/Edward will get initials mixed (been there!) and Alice and Edward sounds like an elderly couple (only IMO!) Smile

ConnorTraceptive · 12/10/2010 20:05

TBH I think Lucy would be a lovely first name.

thisisyesterday · 12/10/2010 20:06

Emilia

lurcherlover · 12/10/2010 20:07

I love Lucy (ha!) but DH isn't as keen - he thinks it's a little-girl name and doesn't suit grown women (?!) - so the compromise is a middle name. I vetoed Francesca though which he really wanted, so I guess he's allowed to veto one of mine!

Alice is my favourite, then Emilia... I don't like Abigail. I agree with a previous poster Lucy is lovely!

lurcherlover · 12/10/2010 20:09

Good point I shouldhavechosen...if this one's a girl but we have another child and it's a boy he will be Edward I should think, and if this one's Emilia maybe Emilia and Edward would get confusing...or it'd look like we did the "choosing the same initial" thing, which I think is a bit cringey.

What about Lucille (sp?) so it can be Lucy for short but Lucille is more grown up later on?

flopsy1974 · 12/10/2010 20:29

Definately Alice.

randomimposter · 12/10/2010 20:31

Emilia, NN Milly is LOVELY.

Not wild about the other 2, Abigail reminds me of Abigail's Party, very 70s. And I went to school with a quite unpleasant Alice.

I don't think the initial thing matters personally; but maybe that's cos my 3 older siblings all had the same initial as my mum, and I only didn't because Dad objected to Gemma as "it sounds like a bleedin' detergent" and Mum retorted "well if you think you're calling her Gisela after your ex (German) girlfriend, you have another think coming"..... Oh happy families.... Grin

littlebird3 · 12/10/2010 20:34

Emilia.

Panzee · 12/10/2010 20:34

Stick with the shortlist and don't panic yet. Wait till s/he's born and if it's a girl, decide what name she suits then.
