Eric?

It's my first post but don't worry about being gentle! My partner and I were discussing names yesterday. We've got a few girls' names we already really like so I think we're sorted on that front but we're struggling with boys' names. He suggested one that I'm not sure about but promised to think about (it's his favourite and really wants it). It's...ERIC. I really don't want to dismiss it straight away as he likes it so much but I can just imagine the nudges and catty discussions about the name if people get a birth announcement text with that name on it. I don't hate it at all, and in fact for a man I quite like it (keep thinking eric in true blood!) but I can't imagine looking at a little baby and calling him that. Should probably mention that I have Scandinavian family members so eric is a good name for them to be able to pronounce too. Please give me your honest opinions, no matter how horrible, I'd rather know now than later! Thanks for listening xxx

I like it. I like Erik better I think (espesh if you have Scandinavian connections).

Personally, I don't really like it, but I agree, Erik is nicer, not sure why though!

I'm not sure. There's something very 1950s, side-parting and silent about it. BUt then it's quite a nice sound.

Erik/Erika is the most common name in my extended family. I agree it's much nicer with a K! Especially with your Scandi heritage you can definitely rock the K spelling.

I know two toddler Eric's and, although I wouldn't have chosen it, it has grown on me. They are both really lovely boys.

Sounds fine to me- but then I am Scandinavian (and my own ds has an ultra-Scandinavian name). Prefer the k spelling.

Littlemisslozza - interesting that you know two toddlers with the name. The youngest person I know is in their 20s so you've at least helped me to imagine the name for a kid.

We have a very run-of-the-mill English surname which goes fairly well with it.

I will keep pondering!

I have a nephew (newish) with Eric as a first name and a more mainstream middle. Tbh I thought it was a joke at first but he's grown into it, as babies do

I love that name. If DD was a boy she would have been Eric. Prefer the C ending if that helps. The K looks as if you are trying too hard.

I have a friend who has a boy caled Eric and he is the cutest wee guy ever - realy suits his name.

dh wanted to call ds's eric after his dad - sorry but my answer to both ds' was no no and no - over dead body etc.....

If he is Aresenal and you say Catanna to him he will definitly chose somthing else. The big cheating thug that was Eric Catonna was Leeds and Manchester united
