Name Associations

I was thinking about this the other day and curious to see what other people think. I know people associate names with certain things (chavvy, snobbish etc) but I'm interested to know about people's actual experiences. Curious to know if there are any surprising ones.

Not criticising any names here, these are all based on people I've encountered.

I can't think of many names less eccentric than Ian!! It just reminds me of Ian Beale, Ian Hislop, and several other dull middle aged men I know!

That's my point though! You think of it as a nice traditional, plain name, but the couple I've known have been completely bonkers (in a nice way) and they're young too.
The point of this is that you can have ideas about a name, then meet people who totally change your view! The idea is to put down your experiences, people you've known with those qualities, rather than the stereotype.

I rather like this idea! It should show that name associations can be entirely subjective.

Can't possibly agree that Rachel is chavvy.

I went to school with a horrible girl called Catriona and it has made me detest the name ever since. :)

Eccentricity: Sean (Irish spelling of Shaun, must be spelt that way though)

Overall niceness: Grace, Thomas (I know a lot of Tom's but only know 1 I don't like)

I love that my 'overall unpleasantness' names are the same as your 'overall niceness' names! Just goes to show that associations can be completely wrong...
Sunlightdances' list is interesting! None of the 'chavvy' names are ones I'd usually think of.

I was looking up a particular name (including surname) and was amazed to find they were all a little overweight and very smiley like my friend. Put in my name and they all looked very much like party girls!

Or maybe it's just me looking too far into it!
